In a word, comprehensive universities focus on cultivating theoretical research-oriented talents, while conservatories focus on cultivating practical talents. Therefore, the Conservatory of Music is completely different from comprehensive universities in terms of academic system, diploma assessment and awarding system.
It is worth mentioning the diplomas issued by private schools, such as the Paris Higher Normal Conservatory of Music. Paris Music Teachers College is a private school. The diploma graduated from the Paris Teachers' Conservatory of Music is called a performer's diploma, which has high social recognition, but it is not a French national music diploma. Similar to the graduation certificate issued by private colleges in China. On the other hand, the national diploma issued by French public universities cannot be simply regarded as a performer's diploma. The performer's diploma is only the product of the private school of Paris Normal University, and has nothing to do with the public conservatory of music.
In addition, some public conservatories also award diplomas at the school level, or diplomas from a certain region, or diplomas jointly recognized by several conservatories, which are not French national diplomas. For example, the Metz Conservatory of Music, the Nancy Conservatory of Music and the Luxembourg Conservatory of Music jointly issued a diploma called Concert de Concert, which is not a national diploma in France, but only recognized in northeast France and Luxembourg.
Excluding these non-national diplomas, we can say more clearly that the national music diploma in France should refer to the national diploma issued by the official French state institutions. Diploma in French Music System, consisting of three grades.

DEM (Dipl？ Me d'Etude Musicale) or DEC diploma (Dipl? My Chor research? Graphics)
DEM diploma is the first level of French national music diploma in music. DEC is a first-class French national dance diploma majoring in dance.
This diploma is awarded by the French National Conservatory of Music and the provincial National Conservatory of Music. Students must pass the gold medal exam of their major. The minor course can only be obtained if it meets the graduation requirements.
Gold medal exam: The gold medal exam is independently evaluated by five non-school judges to determine whether the students' professional level meets the graduation standards. Each student has three chances to take the gold medal exam. But it doesn't have to be three consecutive years. Students who fail to take the gold medal are recommended by professional tutors.
If students need to get a diploma of DEM or DEC, they should not only get a gold medal in this major, but also need minor courses to meet the graduation requirements. For example, a piano major won a gold medal, but at the same time he must meet the graduation requirements in subjects such as audition, solfeggio and chamber music. You can get a DEM diploma. Generally speaking, for French students, it will not happen that the major won the gold medal and the minor still failed to meet the graduation requirements. However, this situation appears in almost every school of China students who are seriously biased. Students have won the gold medal in this major, but it takes 1 2 years for minor subjects to meet the graduation requirements and get the diploma.
The second level: French national higher music (dance) teacher diploma.

After graduating from the Conservatory of Music with a diploma of DEM or DEC, students can take the entrance examinations of various performing groups and get employment directly. For students who want to continue their studies, they are faced with two choices, one is to become a professional performer, and the other is to become a teaching teacher.
In the former, students majoring in music usually get diplomas from the National Conservatory of Music in Paris or Lyon. Dance was admitted to a specialized higher dance college. Such as: Paris Opera and Dance School
The latter all enter various CEFEDEM (music or dance teaching and training centers). Conduct a two-year research on teaching methods. After graduation, I got a DE diploma, and the holder of this diploma is qualified to be a teacher at the French Conservatory of Music.
The French don't like to compare different kinds of diplomas. The diploma issued by the National Conservatory of Music and the DE diploma are completely different directions. Generally there is no comparability. But I put them all on the second floor. Because you want to get the third, that is, the highest level of French folk music diploma. Obtaining one of the two is a prerequisite.

Graduation certificates are not issued by a certain teaching institution, but are obtained by professional performers or practicing teachers who have participated in the examination of graduation certificate issuing institutions after several years of professional career. The first CA exam was held at 1969.
Those who take the exam must be graduates of Paris or Lyon Conservatory of Music, or those who have obtained a DE diploma. The examination is also an independent evaluation, and those who have reached the highest ability of CA professionally will be awarded graduation certificates.

Supplement: About the diploma changes after the reform of French Conservatory of Music in 2006.
In 2006, the French government hoped to reform the conservatory system in order to realize the integration with the international conservatory system. But three years later, the plan was aborted. I will introduce this reform process in a special article. But one of the reforms is the change of diploma. DEM diploma changed to cepi (certificate t d? Primary vocational studies). Although there are some changes in teaching organization, we can basically equate DEM with CEPI. Although the reform plan failed, some schools have changed the name of diplomas and started to issue CEPI (such as poitiers National Conservatory of Music and Dance). But DEM and CEPI are equally valid diplomas.
At the same time, in the process of this reform, some CEFEDEM set up professional advanced performance majors to solve the shortage of places in Paris and Lyon higher national conservatories of music. Such as Toulouse, poitiers and Lille. However, this is a new professional direction of performance in CEFEDEM, rather than raising the local and conservatory of music to a higher level.
Another noteworthy trend is that some regional conservatories have cooperated with local universities to set up a series of cooperative courses and professional directions. Students can study these majors in the Conservatory of Music. After graduation, students can get a DEM diploma, and at the same time, they can also get a license diploma under the comprehensive university system.
