According to Old Tang Book, there was an old man in Shouzhang County, Shandong Province. According to legend, he is the 26th generation grandson of Sean in Han Dynasty. Born in the Southern and Northern Dynasties, died in the Tang Dynasty. He lived to be 99. He went through three dynasties, and his family lived under one roof for nine generations.
Zhang Gongyi is a civilian. His ancestors inherited the Confucian concept of "forbearance, righteousness, reason and concession". His family style is virtuous from generation to generation, and his population is prosperous. He has not been separated from his family for generations, not only has he established a family, but also has filial piety to his father, respect for his brothers and friends, harmonious sister-in-law and orderly upbringing.

"

Patience has created amazing miracles. There are nearly 1000 people in the family. Every day, when they eat, they beat drums and gather. Everyone sat in a row, and the old people sat at the table. Men and women are separated, and underage children participate alone. Everyone is polite to each other and respects the old and loves the young. The old people are amiable, the young people are respectful, kind and polite inside and outside, and live in harmony.
This harmonious atmosphere even infected the animal kingdom. When all the dogs in the family are feeding, if one of them doesn't come, the other dogs won't eat, and they won't eat together until the absent dog is in place. The scene is spectacular and strange. Until now, there is a saying that "Zhang Gongyi's dog is short of food".
Everything goes well at home, wealth is high, and Zhang Dexing is also high. Outsiders come to borrow money, borrow grain and plow cattle and rake. If they have money, they will pay it back. If they have no money, they will never force their debts. If they borrow again, it's still the same, and they don't hesitate to give money and relief. When some young students were dissatisfied, Zhang Gongyi educated them and said, "If they all have everything like us, why come to us?"
The family ethics of "filial piety, respect for brothers, obedience from husbands and listening to aunts" has formed a situation in which everyone cares for each other, respects each other and treats each other fairly and rationally. Everyone regards other people's parents as their own parents and their children as their own.
"There is a god on the head of three feet", this kind of forbearance and kindness touched the distant neighbors and also alarmed the three realms of heaven.
The hundredth fairy made a test.
According to folklore, the Jade Emperor saw that Zhang Gongyi's "forbearance" was beyond the reach of ordinary people, and he could tolerate things that others could not. He can stand/kloc-99 out of 0/00 things.
In order to improve his "endurance", the Jade Emperor decided to give Zhang Gongyi a difficult problem.
One day, Zhang Gongyi's eldest grandson held a wedding ceremony, beating gongs and drums in front of the door, and there was a big banquet in the door. People come and go, very lively. A unkempt beggar also came to congratulate him: "congratulations, it's a godsend." Can the old man have dinner with your distinguished guests? " Zhang Gong agreed, and the beggar went to the house by himself.
Zhang Gongyi ordered the beggar to sit down. Unexpectedly, the beggar said, "What should I do? I want to sit down. " Zhang Gongyi felt that beggars were fooling around and said, "The superiors are all people with status. I'm afraid your dress is disturbing? "
The beggar said, "I am in rags, but I am not necessarily a villain." You don't have to be virtuous to dress well. You are an educated man, how can you judge a book by its cover? "Hearing this, the public hurriedly pleaded guilty, turned to all the guests and arranged for beggars to come to the table.
After the banquet, the old beggar still didn't go, but he made a request: "I won't go tonight, so I'll sleep in a new house. If the new house is comfortable, let your new family sleep somewhere else." When everyone heard this, they stopped fighting, and Zhang Gongyi couldn't help it. He said, "this old gentleman, how can you bring up such a rude thing?"
The old beggar smiled and said, "No way. You'd better call Zhang unbearable. What's the harm if I sleep in my new house? Beggars have homes everywhere and are homeless everywhere. See if the benefactor can let go! "
After listening, Zhang Gongyi turned to explain to the two newcomers and their relatives. Fortunately, the Zhang family is generally virtuous and patient in everything. Under the persuasion of Zhang Gongyi, people lost their breath, and the two newcomers also let out the new house. Beggars went into the house, fell asleep and had nothing to do all night.
The next day, Zhang Gongyi went to the new house to call a beggar, but no one answered. He lifted the quilt with his hand. To his great surprise, there was no beggar at all. All he saw was a white Venus statue made of gold in the quilt! There is also a couplet on Jin Shencheng's chest: Nothing is difficult in the world, but there is great harmony in Bairentang.
After Zhang Gongyi's death, later generations built the "Bairentang" for him.
Li Shimin, the king of the Tang Dynasty, was praised by three generations and four emperors.

In 550 AD, Emperor Gao Yang of the Northern Qi presented Zhang Gongyi's family with a plaque of "Yong Mu Hai Zong". In 588 AD, Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty gave Zhang Gongyi a plaque "A filial friend can be a teacher"; In 635 AD, Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty, awarded the plaque "Yihe Tang Guang" in recognition of the Zhang family.
According to legend, at the end of Sui Dynasty, in Jining, Shandong Province, Li Shimin, king of the Tang Dynasty, was hunted down by Xu Yuanlang's men. Li Shimin walked to the northwest and came to a bridge in zhang jia zhuang, Shouzhang County, Shandong Province. He was badly injured and his horse slipped and fell into the water.
Zhang Gongyi practiced martial arts on the riverbank and saw a strong man fall into the water. He asked everyone to save him and help him go home. Without asking the identity of the injured, Zhang Gongyi expanded the medical scope to Li Shimin to help him recuperate his wounds and his body. Li Shimin recovered quickly. After Li Shimin ascended the throne, he stayed in Zhenguan for nine years. In order to thank Zhang Gongyi for his kindness, he wrote a golden tablet of "Yihe Tang Guang" and sent envoys to watch it.
The envoy's visit coincided with Zhang Gongyi's gathering of troops to build a stone bridge, which was the bridge where Emperor Taizong was injured and fell off his horse. When Emperor Taizong learned of this, he built the bridge in the ninth year of Zhenguan and sent Wei Chijingde to supervise the repair. This stone bridge is about 60 meters long, 6 meters wide and 7 meters high. Later, this bridge was also called "Visiting Xianqiao" and "Guxianqiao", so zhang jia zhuang was renamed Guxianzhuang.
During the Linde period in Tang Gaozong, Li Zhi, Emperor Gaozong, was fortunate to be in the art palace of Zhanggong. He wanted to test Zhang Gongyi's housekeeping skills, so he gave Zhang Gongyi two pears and said he wanted the whole family to share them. Zhang Gongyi took the pear, let his family crush it with a stone mortar and fill it with water. Then he drummed the whole family together, let everyone drink a mouthful of juice with a spoon, and let the whole family taste the pear. These records are still painted on the wall of Bairentang.
Gao Zong asked how to run a family. Zhang Gongyi wrote hundreds of words of "forbearance" for Tang Gaozong on the spot, and expounded the connotation of each word. The emperor was moved to tears and wrote the book forbearance.
In order to let the whole world learn the virtue of the Zhang family's "comity", Zhang Xida, the eldest son of Zhang Gongyi, was appointed as the master of ceremonies and ordered the Zhang brothers to "have ten ways". In February of the first year of Zhenguan (627), Emperor Taizong divided the whole country into ten administrative regions, namely "Ten Roads", according to geography and traffic conditions. Ten Zhang brothers are required to be "divided into ten ways", that is, ten Zhang Gongyi brothers are arranged to live in various administrative regions of the country.
Since then, Zhang Gongyi's extended family has moved to all parts of the country to promote the virtues and "forbearance culture" of the Zhang family. Before the ten brothers "shared ten paths", there was evidence that they would reunite in the future. Zhang Gongyi smashed an iron pot into ten pieces, and each of the ten brothers held one, which was proved by the reunion and splicing in the future.
When Zhang Gongyi met Tang Gaozong's forbearance, he wrote at the end: forbearance and benevolence, forbearance and benevolence. Later generations also compiled a "Hundred Endures Song"? Song forbearance spread all over the world, and it was the most popular in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
"Hundred forbearing songs, songs are forbearing; Tolerance is the generosity of adults, and tolerance is the foundation of a gentleman; Can endure summer is not hot, can endure winter is not cold; Can endure poverty and happiness, and can endure life forever; Tilt if you can't bear it, and lose if you can't bear it; Can't bear to turn small things into big things, and can't bear to hate good things; ……"
"... when things come, they are the most tolerant, and they will be tolerated later; Life is not afraid of a hundred forbearance, but a forbearance; If you can't bear all the blessings, all the disasters will be reduced to ashes. "
