How to understand Buddhism correctly
(a) to understand the general religion of Buddhism about theocracy; Buddhists pay attention to cause and effect, and they can make their own decisions and create their own. Philosophy emphasizes inner speculation; Buddhism stresses practice, and mind and matter are integrated, but there are differences. Science tends to matter and the study of matter. Buddhism is different from science, because it emphasizes the harmony of mind and matter, the mind has matter, the matter has a heart, and the truth of the middle way. At the beginning of last century, there was an argument. One school thinks that Buddhism is not religious, scientific and philosophical, while the other thinks that Buddhism is also religious, scientific and philosophical. Both groups have reasons. Buddhism is non-religious, non-scientific and non-philosophical. Why not believe in religion? Religion talks about theocracy, whether it is God, Brahma, God and I, they all belong to theocracy, but Buddhism is not! Why not science? Science advocates material and people-oriented; Buddhism is a general view, and man, nature and society are integrated, so it is unscientific. Why not philosophy? Philosophy means that everything depends on imagination, which is very empty and lacks practice; Buddhism pays attention to practice and practice, and combines theory with practice.

Buddhism is also religious, scientific and philosophical. In terms of faith, Buddhism has a history. Since it believes, it is necessary to worship the three treasures, which is similar to religion. Buddhism is also scientific, because Buddhism stresses logic, explanation, argument and is close to scientific verification. Buddhism is also a philosophy. Buddhism emphasizes thinking, pays attention to the form of thinking, and talks about the present quantity and the comparative quantity, which is similar to philosophy.

(2) Buddhism is a teaching method to educate Buddhism, and it is the teaching method of the Buddha. In Buddhist terms, it should be called Buddhism. The preface to "Add One Agama" says: "All evils should be avoided, and all good people are Buddhists who seek purity." To put it simply, Buddhism is the Buddha's teaching method to stop evil and promote good, and it is the Buddha's education. The connotation of Buddhism includes endless things, which is more than the curriculum content of modern universities. In time, it talked about the past, present and future; In space, it interprets our immediate life to the endless world. So it is teaching, education, not religion; This is an education of wisdom and understanding of the universe and life.

Confucius' education is lifelong education. Buddhism is the third generation of education, focusing on the past, present and future. Is Buddhism really education? If we observe carefully, this doubt will be eliminated. In daily life, only teaching can be called teacher-student relationship. We call Sakyamuni Buddha the fundamental teacher (teacher), which means that this education was founded by him and he was the first founder. Buddhists call themselves "disciples", and disciples are self-proclaimed by ancient students in China. From these names, we know that our relationship with Buddha is a teacher-student relationship. As far as other religions are concerned, the relationship between God and believers is not a teacher-student relationship.

Buddhism makes it clear: Buddha and we are teachers and students; We are classmates with Bodhisattva-in daily life, we call monks "monks", but there is only one monk in a temple. "Monk" is an Indian word, which translates as "pro-teacher". The teacher taught me personally, just like the guidance professor in the school now. He gave me direct guidance and was very close. If he doesn't instruct me directly, call him a "mage", just like there are many teachers in the school, but he doesn't give me a lecture or instruct me. This is the difference between a monk and a mage. These terms exist only in the education system, but not in other religions. China used to call it the "jungle", that is, Buddhist University. From the origin of Buddhism to the establishment of Buddhism in China, it is indeed a teaching system. We must recognize this fact, so that we can correctly understand Buddhism!
