Yuelu Academy in Changsha, Hunan Province was founded by Zhu Dong, the secretariat of Tanzhou in the ninth year of Kaibao in the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 976). In the second year of Tianxi in Northern Song Dynasty (A.D. 10 18), Song Zhenzong awarded Yuelu Academy. Yuelu Academy is one of the four famous academies in China (Yingtianfu Academy, Yuelu Academy, Bailudong Academy and Songyang Academy).

Brief introduction of the four academies:

Bailudong Academy, namely Ziyang Academy, is located at the southern foot of Wulaofeng in Lushan Mountain (now Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province) and enjoys the reputation of "the first academy in China". It is one of the four famous academies in Song Dynasty. Founded in the first year of Southern Tang Dynasty (940), it is the first complete academy in China. "Lushan Sinology" (also known as "Bailuyuan Sinology") was established in the Southern Tang Dynasty, and it is the only sinology established by the central government outside the capital in the history of China. This university has a special position in the educational history of China. It is the first university in China. When Zhu, a Neo-Confucianism scholar in the Song Dynasty, became Kang Jun of Zhinan (now a county), he rebuilt the Academy and gave lectures in person, which determined the purpose of running the Academy and became famous in one fell swoop, becoming an important cultural cradle in China for hundreds of years from the end of the Song Dynasty to the beginning of the Qing Dynasty.

Yingtianfu Academy, namely Suiyang Academy. One of the four academies in the early Song Dynasty, the original site was in Shangqiu County, Henan Province. Fan Zhongyan once gave lectures in this hospital. Suiyang Academy was founded by Yang Yun, a native of Shangqiu in Jin Dynasty and Five Dynasties. "Students from thousands of miles away" and "scholars from far and near are back" began to accept students after the establishment of political power in the Northern Song Dynasty. Because there are so many talented people here, there are as many as 50 or 60 students in the imperial examination. 1009, in the second year of Song Xiangfu, Emperor Zhenzong sighed and officially awarded him the title of Suiyang Academy. Fan Zhongyan came to Suiyang College to study, got married and had children, settled in Shangqiu and became the bishop of Suiyang College. In the first year of Song Renzong Jingyou (1034), Suiyang College was changed into an official school, and the government allocated land of 10 hectares as school funds. Li Qing changed to imperial academy in the third year (1043). Together with Kaifeng in Tokyo and Luoyang imperial academy in Xijing, it was the highest institution of learning at that time.

Yuelu Academy: Located in the campus of Hunan University in the historic city of Changsha. Founded in the ninth year of Kaibao in the Northern Song Dynasty (976), Tanzhou Prefecture was Zhu Dong. In the second year of Xianping (999), Governor Li Yun expanded the Academy, which laid the basic pattern of the Academy. During this period, Zhou style was famous for its taste. In the eighth year of Xiangfu (10 15), Zhou was summoned and given "Yuelu Academy". As a result, "the academy is famous all over the world, and the number of students has increased to hundreds." Yuelu Academy was transformed into an advanced school in the 20th year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1903), which lasted for 927 years and experienced the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Its original name has not changed, and it has been 1000 years now. It is truly a "Millennium University".

Songyang Academy: Located at the top of Songshan Mountain in Dengfeng County, Henan Province, it was originally Songyang Temple. Songyang Academy, one of the famous academies in Song Dynasty, has a beautiful environment and is a reading resort. Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi were the founders of "Luo Xue" in Song Dynasty. They are all giving lectures at Songyang College. Since then, Songyang Academy has become one of the birthplaces of Neo-Confucianism in the Song Dynasty.
