Shantou University Mental Health Center is a mental health institution integrating medical treatment, teaching and scientific research. It was donated by Mr. Li Ka-shing and founded by Professor Wu Zhengyi, a famous psychiatrist in China. The hospital has four wards with 0/60 beds, supporting outpatient department, psychological counseling center and mental health research institute.

1998 became the first batch of master degree awarding units of "Psychiatry and Mental Hygiene" in Guangdong Province and the key construction discipline of Shantou University. In 2004, it became the first training base for psychiatrists in Guangdong Province. Guangdong Provincial Hospital's "Supervision and Treatment Project for Severe Mental Illness" undertakes the construction of Longhu Demonstration Zone. In 2006-2007, the hospital won the National Natural Science Foundation project. In 2008, he was awarded the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" medical major in Guangdong Province. In 2008, it was rated as an advanced grass-roots party organization in colleges and universities in Guangdong Province.
