If you want to enter the industry, you must meet the industry standards. The only way is to learn. You are only a sophomore. In fact, the course is not tense. You can teach yourself UI design in your spare time.
(2) Join the laboratory
Although you are a design partner, you can also join the Internet lab in colleges and universities, because the lab projects also need professional design. Join the lab, the lab has professional designers, and you also have the opportunity to participate in actual Internet projects and accumulate your own project experience.
(3) Prepare the portfolio
Little friends who want to go in the design direction after graduation must make full use of summer vacation and winter vacation to produce more works. If you don't have the opportunity to join a lab partner, you can study UI design in your spare time, then go to a virtual project and design products from 0 to 1. You can also choose a product that you think can be optimized and completely upgrade the interface of the product. Finally, all the works you made can be put into the collection of works you interviewed when you graduated this year, enriching your own works.
(4) Put the works on the design website and participate in the design competition.
In addition, you can put your usual works on major design websites to increase exposure. If your personal account has accumulated a certain number of fans, your work has a certain amount of praise, which is definitely a plus item for your interview.
Participate in various design competitions, you can get to know your peers, increase your knowledge and learn excellent works through competitions. If you have a chance to win the prize, you will be one step closer to the company you like. Generally, many design websites will hold design competitions, and some excellent enterprises will also hold design competitions, so schools and society should actively participate in design competitions.
(5) Do projects
If you already have the ability of UI designer, you can also try to find an internship in design, or use your spare time to contact small projects to exercise yourself.
I think it's okay for you to study UI in your sophomore year and then do your homework in the second half of the semester. Be sure to seize the internship opportunity, because enterprises have lower requirements for interns, and you can enter an Internet company with lower threshold. During my internship, I participated in practical projects and accumulated project experience. When I just graduated, compared with ordinary fresh graduates, I was very competitive.
I wish you can find your favorite UI design job according to your own plan after graduation. Let's go
