Do you know how many English textbooks there are in America?

The so-called California language is the treasure series of English textbooks published by Macmillan/McGraw Hill.

The same series of textbooks have different versions in different States in the United States.

Strictly speaking, there are more than 13000 school districts in the United States, and each school district can choose its own teaching materials.

Not to mention school districts, for example, each state will choose teaching materials according to its actual situation.

In the basic education stage, the United States itself did not uniformly use a set of textbooks.

So, why do China students with different cultural backgrounds pursue so-called California textbooks?

I just want to say one basic question, the so-called California textbooks are written for native English speakers.

In other words, many American children can actually say a lot before reading that set of textbooks.

And we insist on learning with it, and there is another troublesome thing, that is, there are many new words.

I dare say that there are some words in the lowest California textbook that high school graduates may not know.

I used to work in a preschool education group, where there was a foreign languages department, and an education expert who came back from the United States compiled kindergarten textbooks. I’m not doing anything right now. Looking at these kindergarten textbooks, I was dumbfounded. New words are beyond my imagination, such as crocodile, zebra, giraffe and dinosaur. I dare say that after CET-4, many people may not all know these new words.

I didn't understand it then. Tell him your children's English is too difficult. I don't know a few words.

He said, you don't understand this. American children, who have lived in their mother tongue since childhood, are particularly familiar with crocodiles, zebras, giraffes and dinosaurs. They know how to say the names of these animals before they know the words.

It is difficult for us to use these words in children's textbooks, but they are the most familiar to children.

Well, here's the problem. American children may know the words crocodile, zebra, giraffe and dinosaur from kindergarten, so should we be like America?

Then you have to figure out a problem first. Why do preschool children know about crocodiles, zebras, giraffes and dinosaurs? Because they are interested and like to listen to the stories of these animals.

However, this kind of teaching material is not suitable for China.

Most people in China can't speak English since pre-school. Generally speaking, students begin to learn English in the third grade, and it will be earlier in coastal cities and begin to learn English in the first grade of primary school.

Although children at this stage are curious, they are not so naive.

If preschool children know the world through similarity, then after primary school, children begin to explore the real phenomenon of this world.

Crocodiles and zebras, except for a natural creature, have little attraction to them.

Therefore, there is no interest in knowing such words.

Primary school students in China are not at the same level as those in the United States.

1 grade was learned in American elementary school 1 grade.

But this textbook, even if it is taught by domestic sixth-grade students, is still very difficult, and many of them will not understand it.

Moreover, even if all the application problems can be solved, it is very inappropriate for you to let a sixth-grade child in China learn American 1 grade textbooks.

Just like an adult reading fairy tales, he is unlikely to be interested.

There are many children's books that we adults simply can't understand.

For example, children are fascinated by watching Teletubbies, but adults really can't see them. What is there to see?

If you want to learn American textbooks, you must let your child learn textbooks of the same age, otherwise he will find it difficult to understand the contents of these texts.

But learning textbooks of the same age, our vocabulary, grammar and other aspects are not up to standard.

If you persist in studying, it will increase the burden.

In other words, a fifth-grade primary school student should learn English, the content should be of interest to fifth-grade students, but the difficulty should be American 1 level. However, the American language is not designed for us who learn foreign languages.

Don't forget an important fact. American languages are not written for foreign language learners, but are used to learn their mother tongue.

In the same way, have you ever seen foreigners learn Chinese with our primary school textbooks?

There is a difference between mother tongue and foreign language.

Therefore, it is inappropriate to completely transfer American textbooks to China students.

At least, it is not suitable for most people.

I dare not say everything, but I'm afraid it's not suitable for most people.

I did meet a child who studied American textbooks and did well. His English scores are better than those of his peers.

But his situation is quite special, because his family is good and he has had foreign teachers since he was a child. For him, our domestic English textbooks are too simple.

Generally speaking, if your child can't keep up with the English taught in school now, you can't expect him to keep up with the American set of textbooks.
