Hunan Rice Research Institute was established in 1975, and its administration belongs to Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences. It is a multi-disciplinary comprehensive provincial scientific research institution with rice as the main research object.

The institute currently has 163 employees, including 8 doctoral students and 5 master students. Among the employees, there are researchers 12 and 26 associate researchers.
