Seize the opportunity of the national "double first-class" construction and the construction of high-level universities in Guangdong and Guangzhou, the school adheres to the "four orientations", deepens the "three docking" with Guangzhou and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, focuses on the construction of new engineering, new liberal arts and new normal colleges, and actively explores the development of new medicine and new agriculture. At present, there are 30,088 full-time undergraduates and 7,956 master's and doctoral students in the University Town, Guihuagang and Huangpu Research Institute/Graduate School. The school has complete disciplines and strong comprehensiveness, and has 25 professional colleges, covering ten disciplines such as philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management and art.
At present, there are 10 first-class discipline doctoral authorization points and doctoral professional degree authorization points, 4 postdoctoral research mobile stations, 36 academic master degree authorization points and 27 master degree authorization points. In 2023, there were 76 undergraduate enrollment majors, including 42 in science and engineering, 26 in humanities and social sciences, 8 in art, and 52 national and provincial first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites, accounting for nearly 70% of undergraduate enrollment majors in 2023.
The school insists on strengthening the school with talents, and basically forms a team of high-quality teachers with noble morality, reasonable structure, exquisite academics and full of vitality through paying equal attention to training and introduction. The school has 3,265 on-the-job teaching and administrative staff, including 2,543 professional technicians and 2,062 full-time teaching and research staff.
