Guangdong Vocational College of Water Conservancy and Electric Power is a provincial public full-time vocational college with nearly 70 years' history and distinctive industry characteristics. The school, formerly known as Guangzhou School of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering, was founded in 1952 and was upgraded to a higher vocational college in 1999.
The school is one of the top 100 vocational colleges in China and the fourth national civilized unit. It has been selected into vocational colleges of national high-quality colleges, the first batch of demonstration vocational education group (alliance) training units (vice-chairman units) of the Ministry of Education, the third batch of modern apprenticeship pilot units of the Ministry of Education, national high-quality water conservancy vocational colleges and national water conservancy vocational education demonstration colleges. It is a first-class vocational college and a demonstration vocational college in Guangdong Province. 20 19 was selected as the construction unit of "China Characteristic High-level Vocational School and Specialty Construction Plan".
Taking the road of connotation development and characteristic development, the school closely connects key industries such as modern water conservancy and electric power with emerging industries such as intelligent manufacturing, advanced information technology and modern service in Guangdong Province, and has formed 10 professional groups such as water conservancy and hydropower construction engineering, power supply technology, construction engineering technology, underground and tunnel engineering technology, engineering cost, big data technology, intelligent manufacturing equipment technology, electrical automation technology, big data and financial management, and applied English.
At present, there are 47 enrollment majors, and a national high-level professional group 1 has been established, and a national vocational education professional teaching resource database 1 has been established, 4 national key construction majors in higher vocational colleges, 4 national innovation and development action plans, 2 national modern apprenticeship pilot majors, 2 national financial support majors and 4 national high-quality water conservancy majors. There are 5 provincial high-level professional groups, 2 provincial first-class brand majors, 8 second-class brand majors and 3 provincial key majors. There are 3 national excellent courses, 2 national excellent resources courses, 4 textbooks for the 13th Five-Year Plan of China and 23 textbooks for the 13th Five-Year Plan of water conservancy industry, which won 2 national teaching achievement awards and 8 provincial (ministerial) teaching achievement awards.
The school is a designated training institution in the national water conservancy industry, a national training base for skilled personnel in the construction industry and a provincial training base for highly skilled personnel. It has a professional skill appraisal station for special types of work in the water conservancy industry, a Guangdong professional skill appraisal institute, a safety technical training institution for special operators, and a theoretical practice examination point for an electrician special operation training institution. It is the "Guangdong Water Conservancy Talent Education Base" approved by the Provincial Department of Education and the Water Resources Department.
In 20 19, Hainan Water Conservancy Education Base was jointly established with Hainan Provincial Water Resources Department, and was selected as the "Double-qualified" teacher training base of Guangdong Vocational College and the "Water Conservancy Cadre Training Institution" of the Ministry of Water Resources, with the annual training volume exceeding150,000 person-times. In 20 19, it became the first batch of "1+X certificate system pilot" institutions in China. In 2020, schools and enterprises will jointly develop three certificates of vocational skills in the water conservancy industry.
