I graduated from Shanghai Jiaotong University, majoring in mechanical engineering. There is little difference in the teaching staff of these three majors, so it is not important for undergraduates whether they are national key disciplines or whether they have key laboratories. The status of these three majors in the school (referring to test scores and bullishness) is not much different, lower than management, telecommunications and electronics. As long as you get excellent grades, you can apply for a good school in America. However, the ship major may be more difficult because it involves the background review of American visas (involving shipbuilding technology and national defense security). If you choose to find a job, then choose more mechanical majors. In fact, students who get good grades at Jiaotong University may not have suitable jobs after graduation. You can go to the management trainees of the four major accounting firms, consulting companies, big banks and international companies. The places where mechanical majors can go in the future are automobile industry companies (Volkswagen, General Motors, SAIC), machinery and equipment manufacturing, shipbuilding industry (classification societies, shipyards, ship design companies, ship equipment companies, shipowners), power and electrical industry, power companies, electrical equipment companies, nuclear power plants, and most other industrial industries.
