The school was established in 1985, and Kangding Teachers College for Nationalities was established. 1992, the school was renamed "Kangding Teachers College for Nationalities". In 2004, Ganzi Agricultural School and Ganzi Finance and Economics School were merged. In 2009, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was upgraded and renamed Sichuan University for Nationalities.
The school is committed to serving Ganzi Tibetan areas and Sichuan ethnic areas, deepening teaching reform, improving the quality of personnel training, and striving to build the college into "one base" (Sichuan ethnic area personnel training base) and "two centers" (Sichuan Tibetan modern education and information technology demonstration and promotion center and Kangba cultural research center).
Sichuan University for Nationalities has always been adhering to the historical mission of "training qualified builders and reliable successors of the socialist cause for ethnic areas, promoting national unity and safeguarding the reunification of the motherland".
Focusing on the goal of building a vibrant, modern, comprehensive and applied ethnic undergraduate college, we will continue to deepen the teaching reform, focus on improving the quality of personnel training, highlight nationality, locality and application, and cultivate "reliable, down-to-earth and well-done" outstanding talents to provide intellectual support for political, economic, social, cultural and ecological construction in ethnic areas.
