First, the characteristics of chemical production
Chemical production is flammable, explosive, high temperature, high pressure, toxic and harmful. So it is more dangerous than other industrial sectors.
1. There are many kinds of raw materials, semi-finished products and finished products used in chemical production, most of which are inflammable, explosive, toxic and corrosive dangerous chemicals. Special requirements are put forward for the storage and transportation of these raw materials, fuels, intermediate products and finished products in the production process.
2. Chemical production needs harsh technological conditions. Some chemical reactions need high temperature and high pressure, while others need low temperature and high vacuum. For example, in the process of producing ethylene from light diesel oil and then producing polyethylene, the dead angle temperature of light diesel oil in the cracking furnace is 800℃; The dead angle gas should be separated at low temperature (-96℃), and the ethylene gas with purity of 99.99% should be polymerized at 294kpa(3000㎏cm2) to prepare polyethylene resin.
3. Mass production. In recent years, it is an obvious trend to use large-scale production equipment in chemical production.
4. The mode of production has gradually become highly automated and continuous; The production equipment is changed from open to closed; The control mode is changed from decentralized control to centralized control; The production operation is changed from manual operation to automatic operation of instruments.
At the same time, there are still many intermittent operations in the production of fine chemicals such as dyes, medicines, surfactants, coatings and spices. Because the distance between workers is too close, the post environment is poor and the labor intensity is high, accidents are hard to avoid.
Second, the characteristics of chemical production safety accidents
1, fire, explosion and poisoning accidents have high probability and serious consequences.
Statistics show that the number of deaths from fire and explosion accidents in chemical plants accounts for 13.8% of the total number of dead workers, ranking first; The number of deaths from poisoning and suffocation accidents accounts for 12% of the total number of work deaths, ranking second; Falling from a height and getting an electric shock ranked third and fourth respectively. The explosion of reactors and pressure vessels used in chemical production, as well as the detonation with combustion propagation speed exceeding the speed of sound, will produce extremely destructive shock waves. When the overpressure of shock wave reaches 0.2atm, the brick-wood structure will partially collapse and the wall will crack. If the explosion happens indoors, the pressure will generally increase by seven times, and any solid building can't bear such a big pressure. When the chemical pipeline is broken or the equipment is damaged, a lot of combustible gases or liquids are released instantly, which will quickly evaporate to form vapor clouds, which will be mixed with air to reach the lower explosion limit and dispersed with the wind. It is estimated that the leakage of 50 tons of combustible gas will cause clouds with a diameter of 700 meters, and people underneath will be burned by explosive fireballs or diffusion flames, and the radiation intensity will reach 14w㎝2 (the safe radiation intensity that people can bear is only 0.5w㎝2), and people will also die of suffocation due to lack of oxygen.
According to statistics, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen, nitrogen oxides, ammonia, benzene, carbon dioxide, phosgene, barium chloride, atmosphere, methane, vinyl chloride, phosphorus, phenol, arsenic and other 16 substances caused poisoning suffocation, accounting for 87.9% of the total number of poisoning deaths.
Some liquefied gases heavier than air, such as ammonia and chlorine, diffuse conically at the rupture of equipment or pipeline at 15-30. When the diffusion width is about 100m, people can easily detect it and flee quickly. However, when the influence width of toxic gas reaches 1㎞ or more, when the distance is far away and the concentration of toxic gas is not diluted to a safe value,
There are many factors that cause the accident.
(1) There are many side reactions in chemical production, some of which are not completely clear, some of which occur near the critical point (such as explosion limit), and serious accidents will occur if the process conditions fluctuate slightly.
(2) There are many interference factors affecting various parameters in the chemical production process, and the set process parameters are prone to deviation. In the process of automatic control, there will also be maladjustment or out of control, and manual adjustment is more prone to accidents.
(3) Misoperation often occurs due to poor human quality or ergonomic design.
3, equipment material and processing defects and corrosion and other reasons lead to accidents.
Chemical process equipment generally operates under harsh production conditions, and the effects of corrosive media, vibration, pressure fluctuation and fatigue caused by high and low temperatures on material properties;
Under the action of residual stress in the manufacturing process and tensile stress in the operation process, the material of the equipment will produce cracks in the corrosive environment.
Tattoos grow up. Under certain conditions, such as pressure fluctuation and severe cold weather, brittle fracture will be caused, which will lead to a huge catastrophic accident.
In addition to selecting suitable materials, equipment manufacturing also needs suitable processing methods. If the weld is poor or the heat treatment is improper, the material properties near the welding zone will deteriorate, which will easily lead to cracks and damage the equipment.
4. Accidents are concentrated and frequent.
Many key equipment in chemical plants, such as towers, pressure vessels, reaction vessels, valves that frequently open and close, often have multiple failures or concentrated failures after running for a necessary period of time, because the equipment has entered the stage of frequent failures in its life cycle. When dealing with frequent accidents, we must take preventive measures, strengthen equipment testing and monitoring measures, and replace expired equipment in time.
