Time planning
The Dutch academic system is divided into two semesters: spring and autumn, autumn is September, and spring is February. Although undergraduate, master and some preparatory courses will start in spring, they will start in autumn. Today, taking the autumn admission as an example, I would like to introduce the time plan for studying in the Netherlands.
From the early planning, preparation materials, examination, application, admission and departure, basically the whole application preparation process can be divided into these parts.
Generally speaking, we will recommend that the preparation time be at least one year in advance, so that the whole application preparation will be more adequate and the application process will be more calm.
The details can be seen from March to August. Autumn admission is in September. If it is one year in advance, it is before September of the previous year, and March-August is the time to make preliminary planning and collect information.
From March to August, you can learn, for example, which cities, schools and majors in the Netherlands I am interested in, my current study status and current study background, and which schools and majors can I apply for? These are all the information you can learn at these early stages. By June-September, you will basically determine the institutions and majors you want to apply for. Why? It is because the application of the school will basically be open from September to 10.
The period from August to March of the following year is what we call the application stage. In the meantime, we need to prepare all the relevant documents and materials for the application, as well as the required standard exam results.
Not all schools can accept materials or be candidates for standard exams. The standard exams here refer to some exams, such as IELTS, TOEFL, GMAT and GRE. It is best to get all these things ready within this period of time, so it will be better to submit a complete application package to the school when submitting the application.
Basically, the application deadline for all schools is from March to June, so our whole application period actually starts from September and 10 of that year and lasts until May and June of the following year.
Of course, during this period, because it is a first-come-first-served rolling admission form in the Netherlands, we hope to submit the complete materials to the school as soon as possible when applying and meet the admission requirements.
From the whole admission process, it is calculated from the time we submit the later materials. Generally speaking, it takes three to eight weeks to get the final admission result. Of course, according to different schools and programs, the admission time will be different, but it is basically within the range of three to eight weeks.
After being admitted, it is probably a series of late study time such as visa application from May to August, and some things need to be done, including paying tuition fees, booking accommodation and other late things.
Finally, in August-September, after all these procedures are completed, you can get ready to leave, including buying insurance, booking air tickets, and preparing some luggage for departure.
