The Academy of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University has a history of 1 10 years. Its predecessor was "Painting Handicraft" in Liangjiang Normal School hosted by Li Ruiqing in the late Qing Dynasty, and it was the first new higher art discipline in the history of art education in China. From 65438 to 0928, this discipline evolved into the Department of Art Education of Central University (later changed to the Department of Art), and Li presided over the educational administration successively. 1928 appointed Xu Beihong as professor of this subject, 1935 appointed Xu Beihong as director. Mr. Xu Beihong advocated the Art Nouveau Movement, adhered to the school-running policy of realistic art, and invited famous artists such as Gao, Zhang Daqian, Yan, Pang Xunqin, Wu Zuoren, Huang Xianzhi, Fu Baoshi and Qin to teach here, thus cultivating and bringing up a large number of excellent artists and excellent art teachers, and forming Xu Beihong's art education system in the course of running a school. After the founding of New China, the department was renamed as the Fine Arts Department of Nanjing University and the Fine Arts Department of Nanjing Normal University, and it was renamed as the Academy of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University from 65438 to 0999.

At present, the Academy of Fine Arts has a strong teaching and research faculty, including 25 professors, 23 associate professors, doctoral supervisors 12, master supervisors/39, and faculty 100. In recent years, remarkable achievements have been made in artistic creation, theoretical research and the development and application of artistic design.

Fine arts in the Academy of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University is a provincial brand major, and watercolor gouache and cursive art are excellent courses in Jiangsu Province. Animation major ranks first in universities in China for four consecutive years, and now it is a national major. The Academy of Fine Arts now has postdoctoral mobile stations, authorization points for doctor's degree in fine arts, authorization points for master's degree in fine arts, authorization points for doctor's degree in design and authorization points for master's degree in design. It is the first batch of comprehensive reform pilot units of Master of Arts (MFA) in China, "National Sports Art Teacher Training Base" and "Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Basic Courses in Colleges and Universities in Jiangsu Province", and has been recognized as "China Toy Industry" by China Toy Association. As a pilot college of fine arts (teacher education) in national universities of the Ministry of Education, the Academy of Fine Arts, relying on its strong academic strength and integrating high-quality teaching resources, founded the "Xu Beihong Experimental Class of Fine Arts Education". In recent years, the college has undertaken 8 national scientific research projects and 9 provincial scientific research projects 19, and established teaching, scientific research and practical cooperation relations with universities in Britain, the United States, Canada, Russia, Italy and other countries, as well as relevant domestic scientific research institutes (institutes) and enterprises. Five groups of students went to Russia, the United States and Canada for short-term residence for mutual recognition of credits, and all majors were open to undergraduate and graduate students at home and abroad.

The Academy of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University has a beautiful teaching environment and complete teaching facilities. Xianlin Campus has four art teaching buildings and a new exhibition hall. There are more than 45,000 Chinese and foreign books and 2 10 periodicals in the library of the Academy of Fine Arts. The Academy of Fine Arts has a large-scale sketch plaster statue brought back from France by Mr. Xu Beihong.
