The main performance form of song and dance is large-scale group dance. The dancers hold a short wooden stick in each hand and hit each other up and down, left and right, with strong movements and strong sense of rhythm. After the dance, there is a musical called "Ying Ge Back Shed".
Song and dance belong to emotional dance in Chaoyang District and Chaonan District of Shantou City, Puning City and Huilai County of Jieyang City, and Lufeng City of Shanwei City. Chaoan District of Chaozhou City is the most popular area for singing and dancing. According to the oral tradition of folk artists and the introduction of some supporting materials, the source of Chaoyang English songs can be traced back to the Ming Dynasty.
There are three theories about the origin of song and dance, one is "timely rain", the other is "yangko" and the other is "Nuo dance".
The theory of "timely rain" is a statement in the section of "timely rain" written by Zhang Dai, a Shaoxing celebrity in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties. This section describes the scene of asking for rain. Zhang Dai believes that it may be because Song Jiang, the hero of the Water Margin, is nicknamed "Timely Rain".
Yangko theory means that song and dance are born out of the "Daguzi Yangko" in northern Shandong and the "Liulin Yangko" in western Shandong. Because English songs and "yangko" are similar in pronunciation in Chaozhou dialect.
There is also a saying that today's English songs evolved from the ancient Nuo dance.
