What materials do beginners need to prepare for watercolor painting?
Beginners need to prepare brushes, drawing paper, pigments, color boxes and some auxiliary tools.

1, brush

In general sketch or creation, you need to prepare three kinds of round-headed brushes, one with a width of about three to four centimeters, and one or two flat-headed brushes.

A watercolor pen consists of a pen holder, bristles and a metal sleeve. The most important thing is the material of bristles, which generally includes mink hair, squirrel hair, cow ear hair, bristles, raccoon hair, pony hair, nylon hair and so on. Among them, mink brushes are soft, elastic, good in water content and durable, and they are the top-grade watercolor brushes, including kolinsky and Red Mink.

Nylon brush has strong aggregation and elasticity, but it has less water content and the pigment is not easy to release. Bristle pen has strong elasticity, but hard texture, which is suitable for dealing with rough effect. You can also choose other watercolor pens with cow ear hair, squirrel hair, pony hair and domestic raccoon hair.

Step 2 draw paper

Cold pressed watercolour paper can be used to draw paper. For beginners, the appropriate frame size is generally not less than 20cm*30cm and not more than 40cm*50cm, and the length-width ratio depends on the interest and theme.

Paper is usually made of cotton, flax, cotton cloth or wood pulp. Wood pulp is cheap to make paper, and it is easy to deteriorate, yellow and break after being left for a long time, so it is generally used for sketching practice. A good watercolor paper should be made of cotton, hemp or rags, and its composition will be marked on the paper itself or in the sample catalogue.

3. Pigment and toner cartridges

Pigments can be packed in pipes. There are many kinds of watercolor pigments, but it is impossible to use all colors in general painting. For the convenience of color matching, they are generally arranged according to the cold and warm categories of colors.

Common color arrangements are: crimson, scarlet, vermilion, orange, khaki, medium yellow, lemon yellow, eternal light green, emerald green, lake blue, ultramarine blue, ordinary blue, Payne gray, Van Dyck brown, ripe brown and ripe ochre. In addition to ordinary color mixing boxes, other white plastic plates or porcelain plates can be used for color mixing.

4. Auxiliary tools

Water tank for brush pen, small bottle or paper towel with nozzle, etc. Sponges are also a common tool for cleaning and modifying pictures.
