Introduction to examination
China Translation Qualification Examination (CATTI) was commissioned by the State Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. The national vocational qualification examination implemented and managed by China Foreign Languages Publishing and Distribution Bureau has been incorporated into the national vocational qualification certificate system. It is a nationwide unified translation professional qualification (level) certification for the whole society, and it is an evaluation and confirmation of the bilingual translation ability and level of interpreters or translators.
Translation professional qualification (level) examination is a major reform in the evaluation system of translation series titles in China. Compared with the original qualification evaluation system for translation professional and technical posts, the translation professional qualification (level) examination embodies the principles of science, objectivity, fairness and impartiality, and applicants are not limited by academic qualifications, qualifications and majors. Persons who have obtained certificates at all levels and meet the qualifications of translation professional posts may be employed by the employing unit as needed. Before the qualification examination system is fully established, there will be a coexistence period between the old and new systems. The qualification examination for translation majors will be gradually pushed forward in different languages and at different levels. With the examination gradually pushed to the whole country, the old qualification evaluation system for translation majors and technical posts will gradually withdraw from the historical stage.
The purpose of establishing this examination is to meet the needs of China's economic development and China's accession to the World Trade Organization, strengthen the construction of foreign language translation professionals in China, scientifically, objectively and fairly evaluate the level and ability of translation professionals, further standardize the translation market, strengthen the management of the translation industry, and make it better in line with international standards, thus serving China's opening up. The translation qualification examination was first piloted from June 5438 to February 2003. With the full cooperation of the relevant units, a series of gratifying progress and proud achievements have been made in the implementation and management of examinations, as well as interpretation and translation examinations. The scale of the examination has steadily increased and its influence has been continuously expanded, which has been recognized by all walks of life. In the first half of 2009, the number of applicants for this exam increased from 1.600 in 2003 to1.5000, and the number of English applicants also increased from 1.000 in the pilot period to nearly1.4000. By the first half of 2009, there were more than 96,000 registered reference personnel, and the cumulative number of qualified personnel exceeded14,300. Since 2008, there have been 29 exams in 58 subjects in 7 languages including English, French, Japanese, Russian, German, Spanish and Arabic. All regions and departments shall stop evaluating the qualifications of translators and assistant translators at the corresponding levels in the above seven languages.
Theme setting
The exam is divided into seven languages, namely English, Japanese, French, Arabic, Russian, German and Spanish.
Four grades, namely: advanced translation; First-level interpretation, translation and translation; Second-level interpretation, translation translation, third-level interpretation, translation translation;
It is divided into two categories: translation and interpretation, and interpretation is divided into two professional categories: consecutive interpretation and simultaneous interpretation.
There are two subjects in CET-2 and CET-3: comprehensive translation ability and translation practice. Interpretation test has two subjects: comprehensive interpretation ability and interpretation practice. Interpretation practice in the second-level interpretation test can be divided into consecutive interpretation and simultaneous interpretation.
Those who sign up for the Level 2 Interpretation Examination can choose two professional examinations, namely consecutive interpretation and simultaneous interpretation, according to their own situation. Those who apply for two-level consecutive interpretation will take the comprehensive interpretation ability and interpretation practice (consecutive interpretation) exam.
Those who apply for secondary simultaneous interpretation will take the exams of "Comprehensive Interpretation Ability" and "Interpretation Practice (Simultaneous Interpretation)"; Those who have passed the two-level consecutive interpretation examination and obtained the certificate may take the interpretation practice (simultaneous interpretation) examination without taking the comprehensive ability of interpretation.
Postgraduates majoring in translation who have not obtained the second-level or above translation professional qualification (level) certificate before entering school must take the second-level interpretation or translation professional qualification (level) examination during their school days, and can be exempted from taking the comprehensive ability subject and only take the interpretation practice or translation practice examination.

Certificate management

Re-registration requires proof of continuing education or business training.
