How does 3dmax adjust the mask material?
Scene: cuboid, sphere

Requirement: Make the sphere a mask material.

1. Give the sphere a material, click Standard, and then select Matte/Shadow; ;

2. Select the sphere, then right-click and select "V-ray Properties". In the VRay Object Properties panel that pops up:

Tick "Matte object" and change "matteforrefl/ref-phacontribution" to "-1".

Render with vray
