The Mental Health Center of West China Hospital is a key clinical department of Sichuan Province and West China Hospital, which was founded in 1938. It is the earliest psychiatric clinical unit in China to treat mental illness with modern treatment methods, and it is also the birthplace of psychiatric personnel training in China. On 1958, the Sichuan Provincial Health Department commissioned a training course for psychiatrists, and on 1978, the Ministry of Health commissioned a national refresher course for psychiatrists, which trained a large number of mental health professionals all over the country, especially for neuropsychiatry in mental hospitals and general hospitals in Sichuan Province.
