Guangzhou Sports Vocational and Technical College was formerly known as Guangzhou Sports School founded by 1973 and Guangzhou Sports Team founded by 1976. On 1996, it was renamed Guangzhou weilun sports school. In 2004, with the approval of the Guangdong Provincial People's Government and the record of the Ministry of Education, it was upgraded to the first provincial capital city held by the Guangzhou Municipal Government.
