It is a process that an independent third-party FSC forest certification institution reviews the forest management performance according to the established forest management standards and the principles and standards recognized by forest management units to prove that it meets the requirements of sustainable management.
Chain certification of production and marketing supervision is to identify all the production links of wood processing enterprises, including the whole chain of log transportation, processing and circulation, to ensure that the final products come from certified well-run forests. After passing the certification, the enterprise has the right to indicate the name and trademark of the certification system on its products, that is, the certification mark of forest products.
There are many forces to promote certification, such as market forces promoting forest management certification on the voluntary basis of enterprises, public requirements for certification of certain aspects of forest management of enterprises, and mandatory certification of enterprises under the constraints of laws and regulations.
There are two standards for FSC forest certification.
1, performance standard
It provides qualitative and quantitative targets or indicators for forest management status and management measures to meet certification requirements, such as FSC principles and standards. In application, performance standards have some limitations, that is, detailed standards applicable to global forests cannot be formulated, and regional or local standards must be formulated within the framework of general international standards.
2. Process standards
Also known as the environmental management system standard, it stipulates the nature of the management system, that is, implementing the environmental policy by using the document management system. In addition to the environmental indicators stipulated by law, this standard does not make minimum requirements for the performance level of enterprises.
Forest management units applying for certification must constantly improve their environmental management system, undertake policy obligations, conduct environmental impact assessment according to their own objectives and indicators, and solve all identified environmental problems.
