German major
In 2007, according to the statistics of the "China University Evaluation" research group in Wu Shulian, 55 universities offered German majors.

Only four of them got A++: Beiwai, Peking University, Guangwai and Shangwai. The order is

1. Beijing Foreign Studies University

2. Peking University

3. Guangdong University of Foreign Studies

4. Shanghai International Studies University

Because I didn't see the complete ranking table, according to the online information published by various schools, the ranking of 5-8 is roughly:

5. Nanjing University

6.tongji university

7. Fudan University

8. Sun Yat-sen University

The sudden emergence of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in 2007 is really surprising. Because the traditional strength of Guangwai is French, there are only two professors majoring in German at present, and no outstanding academic achievements have been made. There are almost no overseas students in the rankings of CET-4 and literary translation competitions.

In another online ranking, Nanjing University replaced Guangwai, ranking fourth after Beijing Foreign Studies University, Peking University and Shanghai International Studies University. Personally, it is more reasonable. Nantah 1947 has a German department, which ranks second in the country and has developed rapidly in recent years. (No.7 in 2004, No.5 in 2007) There is always William Zhang. Middle-aged and Yin Zhihong are young returnees. By the way, Ma Canrong, the current ambassador to Germany, went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an interpreter after graduating from Nantah.

At the same time, judging from the distribution of German professional doctoral degrees, only Beijing Foreign Studies University, Peking University, Shanghai International Studies University, Nantah and Tongji University can be called first-class.

As far as teaching quality is concerned, Wuda University, Fudan University and Qingdao University all won the first place in the national average score and the first place in individual scores in the CET-4. But basically, emperors take turns to do it, and if they don't advance, they will retreat. In terms of strength, it is on the same level as Sun Yat-sen University and Guangwai. Fudan ranked seventh in the evaluation of China University, and Sun Yat-sen University ranked eighth. It basically reflects their true level.

The students who are depressed about this ranking are probably Tongji University students all over the world. Many people think that Tongji German Training is a world-famous brand. So can Tongji German rank first? I have dealt with German for many years, and I believe I still have a say. When people talk about ranking, they often ignore that German is just a general concept, and there are many components such as DaF (including German training), linguistics, German literature, translation and cultural studies. Under different conditions, the ranking is slightly different. Taken together:

First: Tongji's German brand is not only based on a German department, but also on German learning preparation department, German research institute, Sino-German college and other departments. Judging from the number of front-line teachers, the study experience in Germany and the quality of foreign teachers, there is really no second one in the country to compete.

Second: However, in terms of the quality of teachers, almost all the "famous teachers" in front-line teaching in the 1980s and 1990s were related to Beijing Foreign Studies University. Just look through the editorial board list of the New Hande Dictionary and you will know how powerful Beijing Foreign Studies University is. Many professors there are translators from Zhou Enlai and Chen Yi! Tongji achieved unprecedented prosperity only after the upsurge of going abroad in the 1990s, but it is almost impossible for the generation busy with running classes to surpass the generation of experts from Beiwai. Tongji just got the right to award a doctorate in German last year, and even the postdoctoral fellows of Beijing Foreign Studies University have been trained!

Third, what is somewhat different from "learning German" is "research level". In this regard, let's see where there is a doctoral program, and everyone will know. Although "literature is not the first", literary research will challenge Zhang Yushu of Peking University and surpass Liu Fangben and Ye Bendu of Beijing in language, and no one in China dares to boast for the time being. What is difficult to evaluate is the Academy of Social Sciences, which is actually a gathering of experts, but it has little to do with people outside the professional research circle.

Fourth: Speaking of "talent training" (note that this is not German training), Peking University has a frightening advantage in "competing for talent highland". Those who can enter Peking University are all masters among masters, even German majors have liberal arts champions, and they can get "excellent" in writing doctoral thesis in Germany! Some students from Beijing Foreign Studies University and Shanghai International Studies University began to learn German in foreign language schools in middle school, and then they were sent to foreign language schools, which can be called the backyard of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Tongji cannot compete with it in the competition for students. Tongji has a large number of people, and no one in China can match it in cultivating engineering German talents. Most of the German Chancellor's scholarships were spent in Tongji. In sharp contrast with Fudan, the quality of students is definitely higher than Tongji in theory, but it took two years to recruit a class (changed after 2004). Few people in Shanghai even know that Fudan has an old German department. If you can't recruit good students, your ranking will drop again. Fourth in 2002, sixth in 2004 and seventh in 2007. (Evaluation of China University)

So where to learn German "best" depends on your level and goal.

If you plan to devote yourself to German studies or become a senior translator, then Beiwai is the first choice.

If you want to be a "master" in research, you'd better go to Peking University, provided that you have the ability to be admitted to Peking University.

If you take German classes just to go abroad, then Beijing Foreign Studies University (Goethe Institute) and Tongji University are all good. In contrast, it is easier to get advice from famous teachers who can benefit you for life at Beijing Foreign Studies University, while Tongji is more popular and more suitable for students who are eager to take the postgraduate entrance examination.

I haven't found the ranking after the 9th. I hope someone can add it. Here are some famous German speakers:

9. Qingdao University

(1994 started enrolling students, and achieved good results in CET-4 in recent years. In 2006, young teachers won the grand prize in the German-Chinese literary translation contest. However, in the fierce competition, the ranking of Band 4 generally declined, and in 2007, they lost in the translation contest, which shows that it is not enough for Liu Dezhang to lead the way alone. )

10. Wuhan University

In 2004, China University ranked eighth in the evaluation, but now Peng Zhaoxing is going to Trier to teach Chinese, waiting for young teachers to come back to China to replenish their strength. However, at present, mainland institutions are really unattractive in competing for returnees. )

1 1. East China Normal University

(Excellent personnel training. Many people who went abroad in the 1980s and 1990s got German doctor's degrees, and those who returned home, such as Wei Yuqing, are already the dean of the German Department of Fudan University. This year, the German University Debate Competition won the second place. )

12.Xi International Studies University

In history, the translation contest has achieved good results, and the quality of students is good, but it suffers from going deep inland and the introduction of scientific research talents is weak.

13. Beijing Foreign Studies University

(Old brand, German teaching and research section was established in 1964, and Yu Shu, the second daughter of Mr. Lao She, has been teaching German in Beier No.2 since then. )

14. Sichuan International Studies University

It's a pity that Yang has gone to Sichuan University now. It is worth mentioning that Li Changke, a doctoral supervisor in Peking University, graduated from Sichuan. )

Finally, refer to the ranking of German language and literature majors in 2007 by China University Evaluation (emphasizing the comparison of teachers):

1. Beijing Foreign Studies University

2. Peking University

3. Guangdong University of Foreign Studies

4. Shanghai International Studies University

5. Nanjing University

6.tongji university

7. Fudan University

8. Sun Yat-sen University

9. Qingdao University

10. Wuhan University

1 1. East China Normal University

12.Xi International Studies University

13. Beijing Foreign Studies University

14. Sichuan International Studies University

As a conclusion, the editor still emphasized one sentence: "If you don't advance, you will retreat". The ranking table of colleges and universities changes every year, and the ranking itself is of little significance except as a reference and spur. For young people who are interested in learning German, the so-called "master leads the way, practice in the individual", and language learning ultimately depends on sweat and accumulation.
