Some students lose interest in English learning at the beginning of the first grade, because they can't study normally, which affects their promotion to high school or even lifelong study. Facts have proved that to learn English well, we should not only be willing to learn, but also be good at learning. As English teachers, we must make students realize the importance of attaching importance to English learning methods, and take cultivating students' English learning methods as an important link in English teaching in normal teaching practice. In more than ten years of teaching practice, I attach great importance to the guidance of learning methods, and have accumulated some effective English learning methods with students, which have achieved twice the result with half the effort in many learning links.
First, remember words skillfully, quickly accumulate vocabulary and conquer the fortress of English learning.
Words are the basis of English learning. They are the hard cornerstones of the Great Wall of English. Memorizing words is the biggest headache for many students, especially beginners. Memorizing words is very tiring and easy to forget. In the process of memorizing words, I teach students a variety of effective memory methods. For example, associative memory method: words learned by association are similar in appearance to words learned, such as consult and result, insure, etc. To memorize one word, the review of other words is not chaotic: Lenovo sounds similar, such as live and leave;; Associating similar or opposite meanings, such as dislike and dislike, fun and boring, etc. Classified memory method: when memorizing words, organize words purposefully and use spare time to remember special words. According to statistics, there are about 500 different prefixes, stems and suffixes in English vocabulary, which constitute hundreds of thousands of English words. Therefore, mastering these prefixes and suffixes can not only easily guess the meaning of a new word, but also make the speed of memorizing words faster and faster. More than 10 thousand words hardly need to be memorized. In addition, let students form the good habit of leaving no words or sentences. For polysemy, we must pay attention to examples, repeat examples reflecting the usage of the word, understand its meaning in different sentences, and strive to have a clear understanding of the various meanings and usages of the word. Once students have conquered the fortress of English learning, everything will be easy. Why are you worried about learning English badly?
Second, it is emphasized that speaking and listening are the most important things in English learning.
The function of language lies in communication. However, many students are not fully aware of the importance of speaking and listening in English learning. Many students learn "dumb" English or "semi-dumb" English. Therefore, in teaching, I emphasize that speaking and listening are the most important things in English learning. Encourage students to "listen if they don't understand". Tell them that even if you don't understand it, it's a kind of learning, because while listening, your eardrum has begun to try to adapt to the pronunciation of a new language. Your brain is adjusting its frequency to accept a new information code, which is a leap in itself. And make full use of psychological unintentional attention to practice listening, as long as there is time, turn on the tape recorder to play foreign language tapes, so that students can be in a foreign language environment, thus improving listening. Encourage students to "speak boldly". After years of study and teaching practice, I found that the most effective way for beginners to learn spoken English is to recite English sentence patterns or paragraphs. Translator Mr. Lin Yutang also summed up the key to learning English: "Oral practice must overlap. Every word you learn should be reviewed, and you should recite it ten times to dozens of times. " Until the accent is perfect. Learning a foreign language is the same as learning ancient Chinese. Reciting is a shortcut. Every time you try to recite it for a decade or two, you will make great progress over time. "There is a saying that' read it a hundred times, and its meaning is self-evident'. Good English is "read", while "read" English is authentic and natural, because users rely on "language sense"; With a sense of language, you can write the correct answer unconsciously when you do the problem. Moreover, when you read dozens of texts skillfully, many commonly used sentences will blurt out unconsciously, and the so-called "foreign language thinking stage" will come quietly. This can also fundamentally change the "chronic disease" that China people are not good at opening their mouths for fear of inaccurate pronunciation, grammatical mistakes and jokes.
Third, recite the text and cultivate a sense of language.
Reciting texts is also an effective way to learn English. It is also an effective way of knowledge input. It can not only help students master a lot of basic English knowledge, but also cultivate students' rich sense of language and carry out listening, speaking, reading and writing activities. In the process of learning, we must master scientific methods to improve the efficiency of English text recitation. 1) Before reciting an English text, you should master the pronunciation of new words in the text and eliminate phonetic obstacles. At the same time, we should also pay attention to the intonation, incomplete explosion and weak pronunciation of sentences, so as to enhance the rhythm of reading aloud and improve the effect of reciting. 2) In the face of long sentences appearing in the text, we must first find the correct way to break sentences. Look for opportunities to breathe in reading, so as to read more beautiful articles. 3) Before reciting the text, fully understand the text, understand the grammar and sentence patterns in the text, and find out the internal relationship and the relationship between the contexts in the text. This will not only get twice the result with half the effort, but also avoid the rote memorization phenomenon of "the young monk recites the scriptures-he has a mouth but no heart". 4) When reciting English texts, we should master hierarchical memory. Hierarchical memory means that sentence memory should focus on words and phrases, paragraph memory should focus on sentences, and text memory should focus on paragraphs. Ask the students to divide the levels according to the central content of the text, break it into parts, and recite it layer by layer. Finally, recite the full text, find unfamiliar places, and carry out intensive recitation.
Fourth, think in English and express in English.
In written English expression, the most typical common mistake of beginners is to write Chinglish, that is, sentences that are not in line with English expression habits. Chinglish often appears in two aspects. One is to use English words with certain Chinese explanations in inappropriate places in English sentences, that is, to write down the meaning, collocation or position of some words: for example, with the help of teachers. 1 Something is wrong. "With the help of the teacher, I solved the problem." In fact, the first half of ten days means "with the help of the teacher". Under should be changed to with. The other is to arrange English sentences in the order of Chinese thinking: for example, "I know him very well", and English should mean that I know him very well, not that I know him very well. Beginners often have high enthusiasm for writing short articles, but they must be guided to proceed from the reality of their existing expression ability. Try not to express complicated meaning. Sometimes when you want to express a more complicated meaning, it's easy to avoid the important without changing your original intention. Take a detour, that is, express a complex meaning with a similar simple meaning; Secondly, break the whole into parts, decompose expression, and express complex meanings in a few simple sentences. Beginners should not use words they are not sure about, but use commonly used words, use what they have learned flexibly, and express their meaning clearly. Start with simple sentences, don't write uncertain sentences, and write less long sentences. In addition, the composition should not be too long, but short and pithy. Regular training to correct wrong sentences, imitate model essays, write English diaries, etc. It is helpful to practice English essay writing.
