abstract

Feminist criticism developed under the impetus of women's liberation movement. In recent years, feminist criticism has turned to be based on women's experience and women's reflection on life. Through the reinterpretation and interpretation of female characters in literature, the value and value of women themselves are affirmed.

Based on the theories and methods of feminist literary criticism and some conclusions of feminist criticism, this paper briefly introduces the social background, awakening and limitations of female consciousness in19th century from three parts, and discusses the female consciousness expressed by British writer Charlotte Brontexq in Jane Eyre. Through reading the text, this paper studies and analyzes Jane Eyre's family background, growing environment and the formation of her personality, interprets the social status of women in the19th century and the new female image represented by Jane Eyre, subverts the traditional concept that women are "things" in a patriarchal society, and expresses a potential feminist consciousness and rebellious spirit. The female consciousness in Jane Eyre conforms to the trend of social development at that time and embodies the pursuit of self-worth and independent consciousness by women in modern society.
