Taiwan Province Province has been our territory since ancient times. Yizhou in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Ryukyu in the Sui Dynasty, Beigang and Dong Fan in the Ming Dynasty. In the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, the Inspection Department was established in Penghu, and in the 23rd year of Qing Emperor Kangxi (1684), it was established in Taiwan Province, which was subordinate to Fujian Province. In the 11th year of Guangxu (1876), Taiwan Province Province was established. The word "Taiwan Province Province" first appeared in the official documents of the eighth year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty (1635), and it has been used ever since the establishment of the government in the early Qing Dynasty.
But where did the name "Taiwan Province Province" come from? What does this mean? Academic circles still hold different views, and it is still difficult to draw a conclusion.
Some people say that "Taiwan Province" is a variant of the ancient myths and legends "Daiyu" and "Yuanao", with the initials "Dai Yuan"; Some people say that "Taiwan Province Province" is named after the typhoon prevailing in Fujian and Taiwan; Others said that the original "Taiwan Province Province" was "buried", and later it was renamed "Taiwan Province Province" because of its unknown characters. It means "those who entered Taiwan in Zhang Quan in the Ming Dynasty were abused by the weather, and those who lived there died of illness and could not return, so they were named after complaining, and their aspirations were tragic." Later, it was ominous to bury grievances, and now it is renamed "(Lian Heng: A General History of Taiwan Province Province, Pioneering Articles). What's more, it is said that the name of "Taiwan Province Province" comes from the official records of Dong Fan, the official articles of Yuan You and the great bay written by Gu, and the name of Taiwan Province Province is translated from official, Taiwan Province people and great bay according to the same pronunciation or local tribal names. Cihai, for example, holds this view. Tan Qixiang and others expounded the evolution of the name of "Taiwan Province Province" and the regional references in different periods in the article "The Origin of the Names of China Provinces" in Taiwan Province Province. According to the article, there was an "official" name in16th century, which originally referred to the area near Anping Town in Tainan, and was a transliteration of the name of the local Gaoshan tribe. /kloc-in the 7th century, "official" was rewritten as Taiwan Province province. At that time, Zeidia, which was built by the Dutch invaders in this area, was called the municipality of Taiwan Province Province by China people. 1662, after Zheng Chenggong expelled the Dutch invaders and recovered the whole island, it was generally referred to as "Taiwan Province Province" in today's Tainan City. After the establishment of Taiwan Province government in the early Qing Dynasty, the area referred to by Taiwan Province Province only included the whole island. Another view is that because the Dutch built cities and platforms in the Gulf, it was named "Taiwan Province Province". Daoguang reprinted Kangxi's "County Records of Taiwan Province": "The Netherlands set up a city here and built a brick city to worship Taiwan. Its seashore is surrounded by sand and water, and it is called a bay. This is also the name of Taiwan Province Province. "
In addition, Taiwan Province Province is called "Congress" in the two volumes of Talks on Poor Rivers and Seas and the Classic of Yahaitu, which were written earlier than the Japanese Mirror Dong Fan Ji. Wu Zhuangda thinks that "Dahui" and "Dayuan" in Dong Fan Collection, and later "Taiyuan" and "Dawan" are all the names of the same geographical object transformed from Minnan dialect. He demonstrated that the name of "Taiwan Province Province" came from "Dawan" from the transformation of the ancient Bay in Anping. According to Kangxi's County Records of Taiwan Province, the castle was built to "worship Taiwan" and established the unity of "Taiwan" and "Bay" in "Taiwan Province". After Zheng Yu 1662 successfully recovered Taiwan Province Province, the name "Taiwan Province Province" was adopted by people. Shao Qin disagreed with this view in the article "On the Origin of Taiwan Province Province" (Historical Research No.2, 1982), arguing that Yin Min in Taiwan Province Province existed long before the Dutch invaded Taiwan Province, and the Dutch and China called Anping "official". I don't agree to translate "Dawan" in Dawan into the name of "Taiwan Province Province", because "Dong Fan Ji" is not written as Dawan, but as a great man, and "Yuan You Pian" is a performer in Taiwan Province. "Official" and "Taiwan official" can't express the meaning of the bay in word meaning. "Taiwan Province Province" should come from the indigenous Taiwan Bay tribe in Anping area, and its land is named after its tribe. According to the survey, Dawanzhuang in Tainan City is the native place of Taiwowan tribe. "Dawan" is the homonym of "Taiwo Bay". In Dutch literature, Anping area is sometimes written as Tayovoan (Taiwo Bay), sometimes as Tyovon (Tiwo Bay), Teijoan (official), Toyouan (official) and so on.
The records of the name of this place in China and Holland are basically the same, which proves the origin of the earliest name of Taiwan Province Province, that is, it is related to the name of the native taiwo people in Anping, Taiwan Province Province. There are still differences on the origin of the name "Taiwan Province Province", but in dictionaries, newspapers and publications, there is a certain tendency to the origin of the name of Taiwan Province Province, and many experts and scholars are actively studying and discussing this issue, which may reveal the mystery in the near future.
