On June 5438+February 1 day, 2003, the restored Guangyu Temple in Qiangang Village, Taiping Town, Conghua City, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province won the first "Excellent Project Award" of this year's UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Protection Award. This is the first time that China has won the first prize. According to the China Culture News, it is understood that the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Protection Award mainly rewards the contributions made by private individuals, private institutions or public-private cooperative organizations in protecting local heritage and highlighting its cultural value, aiming at encouraging private forces to play a role in cultural relics protection. The award was established in 2000 and is held irregularly every year. Previously, China only won the Excellent Project Award or the Honorary Award. Guangyu Temple, which won the grand prize, is located in Qiangang Village, Conghua City under the jurisdiction of Guangzhou, and is a key cultural relic protection unit in Guangdong Province. Founded around 1406, it has been maintained since Xuande period of Ming Dynasty. Guangyu Ancestral Temple has three entrances, with a building area of ***8 16 square meters and an area of about 992 square meters. Sitting north facing south, the main seat is all wooden frame, with gables on both sides bearing the load and plain tiles hanging from the top, which is a model ancestral temple with obvious northern style in the Pearl River Delta region.
According to Liu Xiaoming, director of Guangzhou Cultural Bureau, Guangyu Temple has both historical value, architectural value and aesthetic value. It is an important ancient architectural relic formed on the basis of studying the history of moving northward and learning from the architectural styles of the north and the south. The award announcement of the United Nations pointed out that the restoration of Guangyu Temple is an outstanding example of sincere cooperation between villagers, government agencies and technical consulting organizations to protect local heritage.
