1June 999 10 is the day when Suzhou Graphic Designers Association was founded. Although ten years have passed, the development of society is as intimate and visible as yesterday, deeply engraved in the memory of Suzhou graphic designers. Looking back at Suzhou's graphic design activities, it began with the exchange of folk art design in the 1970s, and the exchange of packaging and decoration design and advertising design in the 1980s and 1990s. In August, 1995, Shenzhen Graphic Design Association, the first graphic design institution in China, was established. The vitality of this new thing has greatly inspired and touched the Suzhou design community. At the end of 1996, several designers of Suzhou Green Leaf Advertising Company sprouted the idea of establishing Suzhou Graphic Designers' Organization, so during the Spring Festival of 1997, they contacted more than 20 designers, held a meeting in Green Leaf Advertising Company and established the preparatory organization of Suzhou Graphic Designers' Association. The meeting decided that Yuan, Song, Hong, Tang Weiming would be the convener, start the preparatory activities while organizing and participating in various exhibitions, appraisals, yearbooks and exchange activities at home and abroad.

After a year's activities and exploration, we finally decided to refer to the practice of Shanghai Graphic Designers Professional Committee and subordinate the Graphic Designers Association to the local advertising association as a subordinate professional committee. At the end of 1998, we reached an understanding with President Wang Zhihong and Secretary General Zhang Qun of Suzhou Advertising Association. After half a year's concrete preparation, Suzhou Graphic Designers Association was formally announced at the 5th Suzhou Advertising Exhibition and the inaugural meeting of Suzhou Graphic Designers Association held in Wu Zuoren Art Museum on June 199. She is one of the earliest graphic designer organizations in Chinese mainland after Shenzhen-Shanghai-Ningbo. President and Secretary-General Zhang Qun, invited judges of the 5th Advertising Exhibition, leaders of the Municipal Artists Association Wang Mian and Wang Zuqing, heads of design institutes, Lu Meili and You attended the meeting, and the first batch of 60 people attended the meeting. The first Council was elected by the general assembly. The Standing Council consists of seven members: Yuan, Song, Hong, Tang Weiming and Wang Ming. Former Chairman, Song, Vice Chairman, Secretary General, Tang Weiming, Wu Jianhua and Cheng Xinping as Deputy Secretaries General. Chen, a professor from Tsinghua Academy of Fine Arts, Hang, honorary chairman of Suzhou Artists Association, and an expert from China Advertising Association were hired. In the process of its establishment, the Society has absorbed the experience of graphic design institutions in Hongkong, Taiwan Province, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Ningbo, and has many lessons to learn from in formulating articles of association, organizing construction and carrying out community activities, which has laid a good foundation for the establishment and development of Suzhou Graphic Designers Society.
