What are the reasons for the appearance of Shanxi merchants' draft banks?
Draft banks, namely draft banks and exchange banks, mainly handle domestic and foreign exchange and deposit business, which is adapted to the development of domestic and foreign trade.

In the past, the method of transporting cash by darts was time-consuming, expensive and unsafe. Since Jiaqing and Daoguang years, the people have a bureau for letters and calls, which is popular in all provinces. Officials and businessmen urgently demanded exchange instead of cash, so the draft bank was born.

There are several versions of the origin of draft banks. The popular version is that the first draft bank in Shanxi was changed from Leilutai Rishengchang Pigment Shop in the early years of Daoguang to a semicolon at the south of Chengxi Street in Pingyao, and at the south exit of Shibaocao Factory outside Chongwenmen, Beijing. A few years later, a five-linked number with the word Wei appeared, which was the Pingyao gang ticket number. In the seventh year of Daoguang (AD 1827), the Heshengyuan Tea House in Qixian County was changed to a bank, and later changed to Dadetong, which was the Qixian Bank. In the same year, Taigu Zhicheng's new satin grocery store was changed to a ticket number, and Xiechenggan became the ticket number of Taigu Gang. Banks have existed for about a hundred years, and the first 40 years (Daoguang and Xianfeng periods) were the monopoly period of Jingang. In the second year of Tongzhi (AD 1863), Zhejiang businessman Hu founded Fukang Bank in Shanghai, and Yang Yuanfeng later founded Nanbang Bank. The last 60 years (Tongzhi, Guangxu, Xuan Tong and the early Republic of China) were the period when Shaanxi Bank was the main bank, supplemented by Nanbang Bank.
