From June 5, 2004 to 10, a team headed by Professor Wang Jingyu of Dalian Medical University began to study the training and application of guide dogs in China.
With the care and support of China Disabled Persons' Federation and the approval of China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF Letter [2006] No.90), Dalian Disabled Persons' Federation and Dalian Medical University established the "China Guide Dog Dalian Training Base" on May 5, 2006. It is also the only institution that can provide professional guidance in the breeding and training of guide dogs. The base is now located on the beautiful side of Xinghai Bay, which is in harmony with Dalian Medical University nearby. The base will be moved to Lushun University Town in July 2007, when both hardware facilities and staffing will be more conducive to the long-term development of the base.
In order to promote the development of guide dogs and let the visually impaired people in China use guide dogs as soon as possible, the Dalian Training Base for Guide Dogs in China, with the support and help of China Disabled Persons' Federation, Dalian Municipal Government, Dalian Disabled Persons' Federation and Dalian Medical University, is practicing the cultivation and application of guide dogs in many aspects. At present, the base has a total of staff 16 people, including instructors 13 people, all of whom have college education or above, and 3 of them have study abroad experience.
After many efforts, three guide dogs have been delivered to the blind, setting a historic precedent for the development of guide dogs in China. In addition, six guide dogs will gradually enter the families of visually impaired people; At the same time, the 16 reserve dogs raised in the base are undergoing preliminary training, laying a solid foundation for the large-scale work of guide dogs in the next step.
At present, the public facilities, laws and regulations of guide dogs in China are still blank, so the base will also work to speed up the improvement of policies related to guide dogs in China.
Dalian Training Base for Guide Dogs in China always takes "finding another pair of eyes for the visually impaired" as its purpose, and goes all out to build a solid foundation for the long-term development of guide dogs in China, and finally realizes "making more visually impaired people in China have guide dogs".
Chinese mainland's first guide dog training base was formally established in Dalian.
This guide dog is a star from Dalian guide dog training base, and its appearance at the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games also made it a real "star".
Four guide dogs appeared at the opening ceremony, including two from the Portuguese delegation and a guide dog named Star from the China delegation. Besides, Ping Yali, the first Paralympic gold medalist in China's history, also completed the penultimate torch relay under the leadership of guide dog Lucky. Star and Lucky are training guide dogs at Dalian Guide Dog Training Base.
Sun Xianlong introduced that Star is a guide dog with strict professional training, and other problems are not serious, mainly for anti-interference. "For a qualified guide dog, it is very important that no matter what happens around it, it can surround its owner and fulfill its task dutifully. This is anti-interference ability. So after arriving in Beijing, we found a celebration occasion like a wedding, with drums and firecrackers to let the stars feel and adapt. "
At the opening ceremony, the star wore a red vest. During the admission of the China delegation, it has been silently following other athletes to guide its master. Although the cries of tens of thousands of spectators resounded through the sky, this well-trained guide dog was not confused and always faithfully performed his duties.
