Fatigue, damage, performance degradation, failure and destruction of large engineering structures and military and civil aircraft under long-term (even exceeding the original design life) load (even overload) and corrosive environment are increasing, which seriously affects and endangers public safety. Durability, safety and maintainability should be considered in engineering structures; Small mechanical and micro-nano MEMS as small as 1- 10 mm also need to consider the long-term reliability and stability under electrical and mechanical loads; The bones and tissues related to ourselves will also suffer fatigue damage and fracture due to various repeated loads such as stretching, compression and shearing in daily activities or sports. Yvonne Wang Distance Education 1999' s doctoral thesis published in International Fatigue Fracture is such a research. A variety of metal materials were tested by a 20KHz piezoelectric ultrasonic accelerated fatigue testing machine. Experiments show that ultra-high cycle fatigue cracks often originate in the sample. After the stress cycle of more than 107 cycle, the failure of the sample continues. It can be seen that many high-strength steels have no so-called fatigue limit (infinite horizontal asymptote appears after 106 ~ 107 weeks), only fatigue strength or durability limit. Wang Qingyuan believes that it is dangerous to use only the data in the week of 107 as the basis of fatigue design. In his research, he also found that the ultra-high cycle fatigue S-N curve of materials can show two other limit types, namely, continuous decline type and step decline type, which are different from the traditional specifications. A large number of fatigue tests also prove that in high cycle fatigue (>: 107 cycle), the crack originated from the specimen, on the contrary, in low cycle, the fatigue crack originated from the surface. This paper has aroused widespread concern in the field of international fatigue, and has been cited by foreign counterparts for more than 20 times in recent three years.

During his study abroad and postdoctoral research in France, Wang Qingyuan undertook millions of dollars in scientific research projects and made significant progress. First of all, he successfully designed and implemented five sets of ultra-long-life ultrasonic fatigue experimental systems in the research of high-cycle fatigue of parts in many industrial departments. For the first time, the ultra-long life (65.438+billion cycles) fatigue experiments of ultra-thin plates, tubular materials, filamentary materials and high temperature and high pressure hydrogen environment were successfully realized. Secondly, Wang Qingyuan used his own system to conduct a lot of experimental research and analysis on the fatigue fracture of many kinds of high-performance alloy materials with strength ranging from 300MPa to 2500Mpa, such as 10 for automobiles, high-speed trains and aerospace, and put forward the mechanism that ultra-high cycle fatigue cracks often originate in the sample and the characteristic that the fatigue stress-life curve decreases step by step after 107 cycles, which broke through the existing fatigue limit.
