"Good teacher", what do you think?
Editor's note: Sometimes, we will hear such a dialogue on campus: "I think Teacher XX is quite good." "I don't think so" ... "Good teacher" is a difficult word to quantify. Everyone has his own standards about what a "good teacher" is. However, we can also learn from students' expectations of teachers and provide useful reference for the construction of teachers' morality. In this regard, our school carried out a survey of "My Good Teacher" among all college students, and actually distributed 800 questionnaires, and effectively recovered 700.

This survey is divided into six modules: the overall evaluation of university teachers, the evaluation of teachers, counselors, class teachers and teachers of various departments, in order to find the answer of "good teachers" in students' minds.

First, do you want to go to college or take a good class?

What qualities should an excellent university teacher possess? According to the survey, 8 1.57% students value teachers' strong teaching ability and should have "profound knowledge", accounting for 76. 14%. But some students like teachers who are enthusiastic about scientific research, knowledgeable and rich in life experience. Is it more important for a "good teacher" to do well in college exams or to teach well in class?

What does a good teacher teach?

In the survey, more than half of the students think that "university teachers can guide the direction of life". Different from the high school's completion of the "enrollment rate" index, the task of university teachers is no longer closely around the "examination outline". Achievement is no longer the only thing, so it is more important for college teaching to let students learn to think independently.

Dragging a small box of books to class has become the symbol of Pang Guanghua, a teacher of the College of Liberal Arts. For a good teacher, Mr. Pang also has his own set of standards, the most important of which is continuous learning, that is, a good teacher should study all his life, love learning and constantly improve himself. Teacher Pang said that teaching and scientific research should be unified, and it is impossible to say which is more important: "teaching ability" or "profound knowledge". What you study is a college problem, and a good classroom will naturally be handy. For example, in the teaching of Ancient Chinese, Mr. Pang did a lot of research and found the shortcomings. In the class of "Feng Xuan Hakka Meng Changjun", he felt that "Hakka" was not used correctly, so he shared his research results with the students in the class and never followed the script. According to student Chen, ancient Chinese is a "very active class".

When talking about her "favorite teacher", Chen of the College of Arts couldn't help admiring Mr. Pang Guanghua as an excellent teacher. "Mr. Pang spent a lot of time on reading and studying. He has read a lot of books and has a wide range of knowledge. A good teacher should be a teacher with patience and perseverance to study and study. "

He Wanping, a counselor in the College of Applied Physics and Materials, believes that teachers should impart knowledge to students on the basis of extensive knowledge, so that students can fully accept professional knowledge. "The responsibility of university teachers is to teach students how to think and how to form their own way of thinking."

Mr. Mei Yiqi, the former president of Tsinghua University, said long ago that "a great scholar is not a building, but a master".

"Formatted" Good Classroom

For schools, the reference for students to think of "good classroom" mostly comes from the teaching evaluation system at the end of the semester. Specific rules are set from teaching to behavior, such as whether to use multimedia teaching in class, so as to grade teachers. "This is a relatively perfect management system, which can build a platform for teachers to communicate with students," Pang Guanghua said, but students' opinions or suggestions to teachers can be reflected through multiple channels.

Teacher Mou Aihua of the School of Political Science and Law pointed out that the evaluation system should be viewed scientifically. "Every teacher wants to train students well, but now there are too many rules and regulations for teachers, such as the teaching evaluation system. If students can't pass any class, they will be easily retaliated by bad reviews, or because some extracurricular knowledge is involved in the class, some students will complain that the teacher is procrastinating and unprofessional in class ... This has a great impact on teachers, leading to many teachers. Dare to adopt teaching methods. "

From this point of view, "good classroom" has also been standardized. Teaching plans, standard textbooks, standard answers and standard PPT have been "formatted" in the classroom. Zhou Zuoren and Shen Congwen's lectures are not first-class, but they are always praised for their profound knowledge. The master of "unconstrained style" in the classroom is incompatible with the formatted classroom. It is natural for the master to fail in class.

A good class can be wonderful, and college questions can be wonderful. Whether it's a good class or a university problem, I'm afraid I have to go back to Qian Xuesen's problem.

2. Dull classroom or silent classroom?

In classroom teaching, only 19.29% students think that the teacher is enthusiastic about teaching, the classroom atmosphere is warm, and students actively participate. 62. 14% students think that the teacher has mobilized the classroom atmosphere, but the students are not enthusiastic, while 210.24% students say that the teacher only cares about the class and ignores the classroom atmosphere.

Most people avoid boring courses. However, when the teacher on the stage tried to plan the class and mobilize the atmosphere, the audience was as quiet as water. This seems to form a contradiction.

But does a boring class necessarily mean boring? Whether it's boring class or silent class, please look at the following two sets of shots:

Scene 1: Class A, the teacher asks questions on the platform, and the students actively answer and have a heated discussion. This kind of active class is because the questions asked by the teacher are relatively simple and repetitive, and students can answer well and quickly with simple judgment.

Scene 2: Class B, the teacher makes a thorough analysis on the platform. Some students are calculating in their notebooks, and some students are discussing in a low voice, but there is no answer like "yes" or "understand". The classroom atmosphere is a bit dull, but students spend more time thinking in class and think faster.

A wonderful class is not necessarily lively, and the so-called warm atmosphere may just be an illusion floating on the surface, which will not bring active thinking and profound thinking to students. The article "Silence in class is not equal to boredom" published by China Education News wrote: "Silence is just the tip of the iceberg, and below the iceberg are rough waves-quick and profound thinking, that is, students' meditation. This will certainly bring students an epiphany in understanding, the construction of knowledge and the flow of thinking. "Boring is the stop of students' thinking, either because the classroom is boring or because the knowledge is unfathomable. Teacher Pang said that it is a bit difficult to interact with the highly professional and profound course "Ancient Chinese". Students should read more books, learn more professional knowledge and keep up with the teacher's ideas.

Chen believes that silence is also a process of thinking. In the course of History of Ancient Literature, the teacher will give you a few minutes to think after finishing the knowledge points. "This is a good time to think, to digest and understand what the teacher just said. This kind of thinking may go further and deeper, instead of blindly accepting the teacher's point of view."

And teachers blindly preach and let students be "silent lambs", which will also make teachers and students lack the collision of thinking. Therefore, proper interaction is also an essential seasoning in the classroom. In order to attract students' attention, Mr. Pang will appropriately increase the interest of the class and play relevant video materials according to the content of the class to promote students' absorption of knowledge. His class contains a lot of information, involving professional knowledge, historical and cultural connotations, ancient wisdom and so on. , and often combined with the actual explanation.

For example, when talking about the historical figure Guan Zhong, he took Guan Zhong as an example. In order to develop the economy, he encouraged the development of prostitution system, so now all the bosses engaged in prostitution regard Guan Zhong as the patron saint. Teacher Pang said: "This kind of knowledge is interesting and related to the text. Telling students properly not only enlivens the classroom atmosphere, but also increases their knowledge. "

Third, "love or fear"?

Luo Ying, a freshman in Foreign Languages Institute, is obviously not used to it. "University teachers are not as strict with students as high school teachers, but they are very relaxed. Moreover, there is little contact with university teachers and a sense of distance. "

When talking about the relationship with teachers, 67% of the students used words such as "general" and "occasional communication". And 60% students think that the worst behavior of university teachers is "alienation from students and lack of communication".

So, what kind of teacher do students prefer?

"Play together" = Good teacher?

Chen recalled a little thing that happened during military training. When everyone was training hard, Teacher Li of the next class gave two watermelons to his classmates. Although the matter is small, it reflects the teacher's concern for the students. She joked: "At that time, all the students in our class envied the class next door."

"Playing together" and "establishing friendship with teachers" became the high-frequency words of teacher-student relationship that respondents expected.

54.29% students said that college counselors and teachers are conscientious, have strong professional ability, care about students and communicate with them frequently. And can patiently understand the situation when encountering difficulties, and 76.38+0% give suggestions or help solve problems. Teacher Lin Yongtian from the College of Liberal Arts chose to stay in Wuyi University as a counselor after graduation. In his view, the counselor is not a real teacher, so he prefers to regard himself as everyone's brother and communicate with students as a brother to enhance mutual feelings and trust.

Teacher He Wanping talked about her student career and mentioned two teachers who impressed her deeply. The first is a counselor teacher in a university, who is over 50 years old, but still actively communicates with every student. He is a teacher who is full of youthful vitality and loves his work. The second is a graduate tutor, who is very serious and rigorous. At the end of graduate school, she didn't finish her graduation thesis in time because she was looking for a job outside. The teacher insisted that she must go back to school to finish her thesis, so she had to go back to school with complaints and finally finish her studies. Now she is very grateful to the teacher for her persistence and seriousness.

"'playing together' is just a point in the relationship between teachers and students. Teachers should have different faces in the first class and the second class. " He Laoshi said that we have to face more students at work now. Although he can't get in good contact with every student, he should pay close attention to the small details and questions raised by them and can't take them lightly, because this may affect his future life path.

Teacher-student relationship-optional "distance"

Besides attending classes, how many times a month can I meet with the class teacher? 25.57% of the students said that "it is hard to find one side at a time", "more than three times" only accounted for 17%, and nearly 60% met 1-3 times a month. When more than 50% students encounter difficulties in study or life, they will not take the initiative to seek help from their teachers because they are "unfamiliar", "unwilling to go to trouble" or "difficult to find people".

Like Luo Ying's "sense of distance", Zhong Chaojun's psychological gap in the College of Applied Physics and Materials stems from the comparison with middle school teachers.

"In college, I seldom contact with teachers. The teacher left directly after class and won't stay with the students for long. " Zhong Chaojun, a sophomore, remembers that every week, the teacher would make soup for the students who would not go home and get along with them as friends. Everyone likes her very much.

"Universities encourage students to learn to stand on their own feet and live independently. Besides, university teachers and students have their own things to do, so it is impossible to pay attention to every student at all times. This requires students to contact the teacher actively. " Teacher Pang Guanghua understands this "gap" like this. The relationship between teachers and students should be "well controlled", students should not be too close or too distant, and they should learn to master the "degree".

Whether sending watermelons or making soup, a small thing is enough for students to remember. As Hegel said, "everyone pursues self-existence in the other". Whether the relationship between teachers and students is "playing together" or "frightening", love or fear, is just a choice in teaching methods. It doesn't matter whether you choose one or two. The most important thing is that you stand in the position of respecting and caring for students.

A classmate wrote on the questionnaire: A good teacher in my mind is enthusiastic, enthusiastic, cheerful, humorous, can mobilize the classroom atmosphere, strict and gentle, and always faces students with the best smiling face, without discrimination.
