On the Significance of Guan Hanqing's Zaju in China's Drama History.
Guan Hanqing is one of the most outstanding representatives in Yuan Zaju. His profundity is a lever to push Yuan Zaju away from the "matrix" of Song and Jin Zaju, and it is also a banner to mark the artistic peak of traditional opera creation. It is worthy of being the first of the four masters of Yuan Zaju.

Being able to create many classic scripts is inseparable from Guan Hanqing's life experience. Guan Hanqing spent the first half of his life in that turbulent era of blood and fire. As an intellectual in feudal times, he was familiar with Confucian classics and was deeply influenced by Confucianism. Therefore, in his plays, he often uses classic sentences such as Zhouyi and Shangshu conveniently. Moreover, the Yuan Dynasty was an era when Confucianism still enveloped the ruling and opposition parties, and the lower classes were increasingly awakened and rebelled. Guan Hanqing lived in this specific historical stage, and his drama creation and artistic style showed distinct and complex characteristics. On the one hand, he is very concerned about people's livelihood and loves pop culture. On the other hand, on the issue of establishing social order, he endured the Confucian theory of benevolent government and even showed his yearning for official life.

Guan Hanqing plays an important role in the history of literature, and the key lies in his artistic achievements in the creation of zaju. First of all, in the choice of theme, he raised the issue of social justice from the standpoint of ordinary people. It was generally believed that the social darkness he exposed was a reflection of the current situation at that time, which was not bad. But at the same time, we need to see that society has always been unfair to the weak, and it did not appear until the Yuan Dynasty. Putting forward this question sharply is not only the manifestation of the writer's conscience, but also the appeal of the developing citizen class through the writer. Although, in order to realize social justice, Guan Hanqing often has to resort to fantasy and look forward to the real implementation of the "king law", but ultimately it reflects the desire to improve social order.
