Introduction of Qiuci Ancient City
The ancient city of Qiuci is located in Pilang Village, about two kilometers west of Kuqa County. The circumference of the ancient city is nearly 8000 meters, the north wall is 2000 meters, the south wall 1.806 meters, the east wall 1.646 meters, and the west wall is about 2200 meters. Except for the east, south and north walls, the western wall has disappeared. The whole city is an irregular square with walls about 2-7 meters high. It is made of rammed earth, and battlements are built every 40 meters. During the period of 1985, Mr. Huang Wenbi, a famous archaeologist in China, once carried out excavation work in this city. Unearthed cultural relics include stone tools, painted pottery bone chips, copper chips, five baht coins, Qiuci coins and Kaiyuan Bao Tong. The ancient city of Qiuci preserves a large number of cultural relics, including Gandhara, Qiuci, Tufan and Han civilization in the Central Plains, which is of great significance for studying and excavating the cultural and artistic connotation of Qiuci Grottoes and the origin of ancient cultures in Central Asia, West Asia and even East Asia. 20 13 March, the State Council announced the ancient city of Qiuci as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
