If you apply to a relatively common school in Europe and America, such as a school ranked below 50 in the United States, sometimes you don't need to write a study abroad document, or even if you let it, its importance is relatively not particularly high. If you apply for a prestigious school, then the importance of studying abroad documents is extremely high, which can be said to be the most important in the whole application process. Usually, students who apply for prestigious schools have a very strong personal hardware background, and their previous school performance is excellent. At this time, they can only highlight their personality through studying abroad documents and let teachers choose from a large number of applicants.
Famous American universities used to use SAT or ACT test scores to select outstanding students. Now more and more famous American universities do not require students to provide SAT/ACT scores. SAT and ACT test scores reflect students' writing ability and analytical ability, so it is more important to reflect students' analytical ability, critical thinking and writing ability through studying abroad documents.
When writing study abroad documents, there are the following points to pay attention to:
1) Because students generally apply for several schools at a time, they must be careful not to write the name of the school wrong when writing documents. Once the school name is misspelled, or even written in other schools, it will definitely be rejected! Be sure to confirm the application carefully before submitting it.
2) When applying for a school, you must have a full understanding of this school. If you are not interested in this school and don't understand it, in fact, the admissions officer can see it from the documents you wrote to a great extent. Imagine that another applicant loves this school very much, even to the point of fanaticism. He expressed his feelings in the application, so often under the same hardware conditions, even if his background is far less than yours, he is likely to be admitted, but you are rejected.
3) In order to save trouble, many students will write a unified document and send it to different schools. In fact, the admissions officer of the school is not interested in reading such application documents at all. At the same time, it also gives the admissions officer an impression that you have not made 100% efforts to apply for this school and become a member of this school. Admissions officers of the school admission committee always want to see the study abroad documents specially tailored for their own schools, which can also explain why you are suitable for their programs.
4) When writing documents, remember the principle of honesty. Westerners value honesty the most. The purpose of the document is to fully show the admissions officer your personality, advantages, outlook on life, career ideals, the contribution you will bring to the school and so on. But this premise is to fully show yourself, not a fictional character. Be sure to objectively reflect the rewards you have won. It is not an exaggeration. Once a dishonest description is found, it will be rejected directly.
5) Use written language. Don't use spoken language when writing documents, use standardized written language.
6) Write a short story and express what you want to say. Written in this way, others will feel very vivid and unforgettable. The thinking of westerners is very different from that of China people. We in China think more abstractly, while westerners think more directly. Things that are too abstract are difficult for them to understand. Express it in a narrative way to make it easier for them to accept and understand. For example, if you say "I am rich" to westerners, they may not be very conceptual. Are you rich or not? And you can say "Look, the building opposite is mine", and they will remember it clearly. You can often use this narrative method in your documents to reflect your personality characteristics, preferences and so on by describing a short story.
