The distribution and controlling factors of calcareous microfossils in the offshore sediments of China were systematically analyzed. It was found that the South China Sea amplified the environmental signals of glacial cycles and the marginal sea of the western Pacific Ocean had a great influence on the evolution of terrestrial environment in China, which made creative contributions to the development of marine geology in China.
It took the lead in carrying out quantitative paleoecology and burial studies of microfossils in China, which promoted the development of new directions such as paleoceanography and paleolimnology in China, and opened up and developed paleoceanography research.
Committed to promoting China's deep-sea research and marine geology, promoting China's participation in international cooperation in ocean drilling, taking the lead in proposing "the historical record of East Asian monsoon in the South China Sea and its global climate significance" in 1996, winning the first place in global evaluation in 1997, and being invited as the chief scientist;
Successfully presided over the first international ocean deep-sea scientific drilling (South China Sea ODP voyage 184) in Nanhai199, China, and obtained the best record of late Cenozoic environmental evolution in the western Pacific.
At present, he is the chief scientist of the national key basic research and development planning project ("973" project), the leader of the national key discipline "Marine Geology" and the Shanghai key discipline "Marine Geology".
In recent years, we have actively promoted the scientific research on China's earth system, emphasized the interaction between the earth's spheres, and studied the evolution of the macro-environmental pattern of Cenozoic East Asia from the perspective of land-sea integration.
