What should these two seemingly unrelated words be discussed together? They are so clear in definition. However, what I want to say here is that we can clearly understand the definition, but it can't guide our lives. To a great extent, it is difficult for us to define what vanity is and what keeps pace with the times. It is so insignificant to simply understand the meaning of words when different situations cannot be correctly and reasonably classified.

In the 1980s, when cotton trousers were popular, it was vain for the older generation to buy warm trousers, which are quite popular now, in order to achieve the effect of wearing them beautifully, because they could also achieve the effect of keeping warm at that time. Why should they pursue something other than keeping warm? However, modern people rarely ask about cotton trousers.
In the 1990s, stock trading was regarded by the older generation as unrealistic money worship and paranoia for nothing. That's what people with strong vanity do. Now even the aunts wandering in the streets of Beijing can keep pace with the times and name a few stocks.
Nowadays, buying a car is regarded as an extremely strong vanity. In China, where cycling is practiced, it is absolutely unacceptable for traditional people to honk their horns while driving private cars. People who spend money to buy a place like this are vain.
Mobile phones, speakers, computers, notebooks, automatic washing machines, household air conditioners, big houses, restaurants, beauty salons. Think about it carefully, all aspects are going through a process from vanity to keeping pace with the times.
As can be seen from the above example, when a new technology just appears, those who adopt and accept it will bear such a vanity charge; But when the new technology is popularized, it is accepted by everyone with the development of the times. If you still stick to the original concept at this time, it will certainly not be accepted by others, for example, cars are not as convenient as bicycles; Washing machine is not as effective as hand washing; Frozen food tastes better than fresh food; There is no reason and it doesn't hold water.
So the above example tells us that in material life, different people, different times and different attitudes will have different explanations for vanity. Vanity in material life will occasionally promote the development of productive forces, stimulate national consumption and improve the quality of life. It can be seen that the definition of vanity also needs to keep pace with the times. It is true that all this is based on my own ability. As long as my own ability allows, it is understandable to pursue vanity that others think. On the contrary, blindly waiting, trusting traditional ideas, and often wearing a hard-working and simple hat on the grounds of not loving vanity are undoubtedly incompatible with rejecting new science and technology and unacceptable in the eyes of people who keep pace with the times.
Does vanity really keep pace with the times and become a compliment? In fact, the biggest harm of vanity is not material, but spiritual. Spiritual vanity is a superficial understanding of others; Spiritual vanity likes to flaunt itself and feel superior; Spiritual vanity likes to show off, hoping to express themselves with other people's mistakes and make a fuss about them; Spiritual vanity will bring people a low-level mentality and lead people into the abyss of ignorance. Such vanity is not to list concrete things, but to use those intangible things. For example, mental workers deliberately belittle manual workers, cadres do not care about workers, key college students are harsh and ordinary college students, men are superior to women, and they are unwilling to accept ordinary jobs because they have nothing at home, and so on. This kind of thing must be discarded.
Knowing new things, understanding new ideas, judging things and thinking should all keep pace with the times.
