Discussion on application of magnetic bearing in high-speed spindle of machine tool?
When the magnetic force acts on the high-speed spindle, the rotating speed of 100000rpm can be obtained. On the one hand, the surface processing effect can be improved, and on the other hand, the service life is far longer than that of traditional bearings. Although this technology is still in the prototype testing stage, many advantages have been fully reflected. Its performance is not affected by thermal effect, no wear and tear, and it automatically shuts down when overloaded.

Traditional bearings provide radial or axial support for the spindle, allowing relative movement between the inner ring and the outer ring. The inner ring and the outer ring are connected by balls or rollers, and the supporting force is also transmitted between them. Oil film bearings have no balls and rollers, so they are lubricated or cooled by pressure oil. The above two kinds of bearings have been used for hundreds of years. However, the support mode of magnetic bearing for rotating parts is different from the above two products.

Magnetic bearing is a kind of non-contact bearing, which suspends rotating parts between fixed parts by electromagnetic force. This means no friction, no wear, higher stability and higher speed. Electromagnetic force is mainly related to current and air gap. The sensor collects the data of gap size, and the control system adjusts the current output according to the input signal.

Magnetic bearings are mainly composed of three parts:

Bearing and sensor: The bearing provides support for the spindle, and the sensor is responsible for collecting position signals.

Control system: responsible for providing power and calculating the correct correction force according to the feedback signal to drive the controller to move in different directions.

Software system: responsible for calculating and outputting feedback signals.

The main disadvantages of magnetic bearings are: huge volume, need of power supply, NSK general agent, complex structure and algorithm.
