The electrical engineering discipline of Shanghai Maritime University was approved by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission on September 20 12, and was established as "the first-class discipline in Shanghai universities (Class B)". This discipline is characterized by port, ship, shipping and marine electrical engineering, and is committed to the research and application of cutting-edge technologies in the field of port and marine electrical engineering, as well as the cultivation of R&D talents, so as to provide technical support and services for Shanghai to build an international shipping center.

There are professors 12 in the discipline echelon, including 8 doctoral supervisors, Shuguang scholars 1 person and 3 Qixing students. There are also 20 associate professors and lecturers. The discipline has hired academicians, Professor Chen, Professor Qian Lighting and other famous scholars as academic consultants. It is divided into three research teams and research directions: marine new energy electric energy conversion technology and ship power system, ship and port equipment electric drive control, port and ship system state monitoring and safety control.
