Ding of Hongyan refers to a revolutionary who served as the deputy director of the political department of the Red Fourth Army, the captain of the four columns and the secretary of the Lijiang prefectural party committee in the Long March of the Red Army led by the China * * * production party. Ding, a native of Meixian County, Guangdong Province, 1928 joined the China * * * Production Party. He made great contributions to the victory of the Red Army's Long March, and was praised by Mao Zedong as "like a torch, illuminating all directions". After the Long March, Ding served as the head of the regiment directly under the Central Committee and the commander of the ninth division of the New Fourth Army, and was transferred to the old revolutionary base areas after 1949.
