The origin of the National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition dates back to 1979 at the beginning of China's reform and opening up 29 years ago. That year, China Association for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education held the "First National Youth Science and Technology Exhibition" in Beijing. This exhibition has attracted great attention of the party and state leaders. Comrade Deng Xiaoping wrote an inscription for the event: "Teenagers are the future of the motherland and the hope of science!" This is the predecessor of the National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition. In the next 20 years, with the attention, care and strong support of the party and state leaders and many scientists of the older generation, China Association for Science and Technology took the lead in holding two national large-scale youth science and technology activities, namely "National Youth Invention and Creation Competition and Scientific Seminar" (starting from 1982 and renamed as "National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition" in 2000) and "National Youth Biological and Environmental Science Practice Activities" (beginning) Since 1982, it has been held in Shanghai, Kunming, Lanzhou, Beijing, Shenyang, Chengdu, Nanning, Changsha, Tianjin, Xining, Hong Kong, Hohhot, Hefei and Fuzhou.
