Cai Lei, a researcher at Institute of Microbiology, China Academy of Sciences, is mainly engaged in basic research such as systematics, biodiversity of plant pathogenic fungi and fungi of special ecological groups, and investigation, collection and application evaluation of fungal resources with important economic value.
A new academic point of view was put forward on some basic problems in the systematic study of plant pathogenic fungi. The theory and method of polyphasic taxonomy were adopted to combine phenotype and genotype, and the species concept of partial group science was established and tended to the natural classification system. The genetic and physiological and pathological characteristics of some compound species in plant pathogenic fungi were emphatically studied.
In addition, the phylogenetic relationship of some important Faecataceae genera was clarified, and the classification system of some taxa was revised. The resources of freshwater fungi in China were systematically investigated and classified, and the relationship between their diversity and distribution and environmental factors was studied. More than 5,000 fungal specimens were identified, and more than 2,500 strains were isolated and preserved, and 5 new genera, 40 new species and 7 new combinations were published.
Published 50 papers in 14 international magazine, including 2 English monographs 1 department. He used to be the executive deputy editor-in-chief of Mycology, the editorial board of Fungal Diversity, and reviewed manuscripts for 9 international journals such as Plant Pathology. Won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award and the first prize of Yunnan Science and Technology Progress Award.
