In front of the door is a poem full of childlike innocence, written in August, 1982. Words and expressions are plain and clear, and the natural innocence of rhythm and artistic conception is completed with childlike reverie. However, this is an adult fairy tale after all. It does not place its own beauty in a distant place, nor dare it fantasize about the future as firmly as a child, but places its hopes in a "doorway" and a "morning". In our opinion, this narrow area "doorway" and this short time "morning" do not seem to symbolize exuberant vitality, but only a short-lived "beauty" that may appear at any time with such a childhood fantasy in a long and complicated life.

Gu Cheng was a poet who swam over during the Cultural Revolution. Just like an elk rising from a swamp, he is not fascinated by the land full of flowers, so he dares not be generous with the time and space of his life, but will seize every moment of his life and chew it carefully.

We saw: "the door is like a city, and the sun is shining." We saw: "the grass is bearing seeds/the wind is shaking the leaves/we stand silent/it's beautiful." The poet gave us a narrow scene, a short period of time, an almost still movement, and he chewed so finely and so tastefully. This poem shows an adult who has experienced ups and downs and occasionally cherishes a short and beautiful life. (Quoted from: Appreciation of Xue Qi's Door)
