1. What is a Master of Translation?
MTI, full name of Master of Translation and
Interpretation, that is, master's degree in translation, was established in June 2007 to meet the needs of the socialist market economy for applied senior professionals, and it is one of the 20 professional degrees in China at present. MTI education attaches importance to practice, aiming at cultivating high-level, applied and advanced translators with professional oral and translation skills. The teaching content emphasizes the training of interpretation and translation skills, the cultivation of students' practical translation ability, and the cultivation of translation theory quality and cross-cultural communication ability. Teaching adopts various forms such as course discussion, simulation and practical training to strengthen teaching practice. Thesis must be closely combined with translation practice, which can be in the form of research report, experimental report or translation project research paper. Those who pass the course examination, complete the required translation exercises and pass the thesis defense will be awarded the master's degree in translation.
Generally, the enrollment target is undergraduate degree, and non-foreign language graduates and those with practical experience in interpretation and translation are encouraged to apply.
2. Through what channels can I get the application information of MTI?
At present, there are 40 universities offering MTI in China. Some offer both MT (translation) and MI (interpretation) at the same time, while others offer only one direction. And there are differences in tuition fees, teachers, regions and characteristics. To take the MTI of a school, students have to have a special understanding of this institution. Specific information is published on the graduate websites of MTI colleges. For example, the website of Shanghai Van Gogh College.
You can download the "2009 Admissions Guide" on the website.
Students who are interested in applying for MTI should pay special attention to mti.com/,, official website, the MTI Teaching Committee.
, understand the professional direction and policy trends. Students can find a lot of important information on this website, such as the general outline of MTI entrance examination, the list of enrollment schools, the first and second batch of MTI training units and so on.
In addition, because the examination forms and courses of MTI may change every year, students should check the latest questions and requirements one year before the exam. Generally, the latest news about exams or enrollment will be posted on the websites of various institutions, and students who are interested in applying for exams should pay more attention.
3.3 What's the difference? MTI and MA?
MTI is a master of translation, and the training mode focuses on the practical ability of interpretation and translation. Therefore, students who apply for the exam should be students who are interested in translation practice. MTI is aimed at on-the-job employees at the initial enrollment, so students who are interested in applying for the exam must find out whether the college you want to apply for recruits fresh graduates. For example, they have only recently begun to accept fresh graduates.
In terms of examination subjects, the biggest difference between MTI and ordinary MA is that they don't take the second foreign language test, which is an advantage for students who are not good at learning the second foreign language but have strong practical ability. Of course, in addition to politics (national unified examination), foreign language comprehensive ability and translation, there are also Chinese writing and encyclopedia knowledge in MTI's four examination subjects. For details, please refer to the examination syllabus on the website of the Teaching and Guidance Committee.
