In the era of Cao Xueqin, the Confucian political textbook "Four Books" annotated by Zhu in the Song Dynasty has been regarded as a classic by feudal rulers and has great authority. When Jia Baoyu went to school, Jia Zheng told him, "The most important thing is to recite the four books first." Jia Baoyu, on the other hand, is afraid to read these "most important things", even "most of them are unfamiliar" and "unable to recite them". Of course, this will be regarded as "carelessness", "stupidity", "incompetence" and "corruption" by the feudal ruling class. But Jia Baoyu loves to read books that Mr. Neo-Confucianism is most opposed to, such as The West Chamber and The Peony Pavilion. He wrote an inscription for the Grand View Garden and an obituary for Furong's daughter, which also seemed very talented. In the eyes of Jing Xian, he is "brilliant and brilliant." It can be seen that different ideological foundations have different criteria for evaluating a person.
Jia Baoyu hated the career path of feudal intellectuals and sharply satirized those who were keen on fame as "people seeking fame" and "thieves and ghosts". Contrary to the feudal moral concept of "men are superior to women", he said: "Daughters are made of water and men are made of mud. I feel refreshed when I see my daughter, and I feel turbid and smelly when I see a man! " He laughed at the so-called "respect for gentlemen" advocated by Taoism, which was nonsense. Jia Baoyu's words and deeds were regarded as "unreachable", "perverse" and "outrageous" by the feudal ruling class, which showed his bold challenge and criticism to Confucius and Mencius, the spiritual pillar of the feudal ruling class. And "That is the slander of the world" is a tribute to his arrogant and stubborn rebellious character.
Jia Baoyu's rebellious thought was progressive at that time. But after all, he is a "rich and idle man" who grew up in a feudal aristocratic family. He hated the worldly wisdom of the feudal ruling class, did not pursue fame and fortune, but got used to the life of the exploiting class. Therefore, once wealth disappears and family fortune declines, it will inevitably be "poor."
