It's not the kind of entertainment circle, but probably the circle of independent documentaries.
As a young man in a small town, I also have a movie dream. Even if I am not a film major, I will always yearn for it. In March, 2022, after being unemployed in Chengdu and naked resignation for half a year, I was lucky enough to come to a film studio to take part in the post-work of a documentary and be responsible for sorting out the materials. This year I was accompanied by two prospective senior students.
1.? How did I find this job and why can I join it?
I happened to see the intern recruitment information in Douban, and my original job was also exposed to related work contents, such as writing TVC scripts, which attracted 2000+ viewers. When I submitted my resume to the director, I wrote, "As a documentary lover, I want to be an image creator from a female perspective. If I have the opportunity to participate in film creation, I will especially cherish even the simplest works. " Thank the director for giving me the opportunity.
2.? About work content and work experience
This is an independent documentary that took four years to shoot. At that time, it was in the post-editing stage, and the amount of shooting material was huge, with more than 400 hours. I am mainly responsible for sorting out the material, picking up the words in the dialogue between characters, marking the timeline, etc. It is simple but requires patience and care. Simple work is actually very healing and peaceful.
Don't rush to catch up with the node, meet the challenge, and just do what you are doing wholeheartedly. I think of a story in Love Crash-Zimalan. When you look at the material, you can feel the joys and sorrows of the people in the film, and you have a feeling that you are also involved in each other's lives, as if you can see the time slowly settling.
I have lunch in the studio every day, which is super rich. Often six people eat seven or eight dishes and one soup.
In the evening, I sometimes go to the cocktail bar opened by the studio director to have a drink and chat, learn to mix drinks, and often meet people from Chengdu film and television circles and music circles, such as the lead singer of Voice TOY.
3.? On the follow-up of this work
This film is very smooth, and it has been selected in many international documentary film festivals and won a lot of praise. At present, it has been sent to Europe to be taken over by a more professional editing team and entered the film editing stage. Maybe everyone will see it next year. I also became friends with the director and other friends. In addition, I am also preparing my own micro-documentary shooting plan from a female perspective.
4.? Advice to friends who want to join the documentary circle
First of all, this is not an easy thing, especially for ordinary people, it is not an option that you can turn back when your head is hot. At least the status quo of independent films in China is not optimistic.
The industrialization level of this industry is far from mature. A director wants to make a film by himself. If he can't get the investment, many people have to borrow money by selling houses. After many years, he may not have achieved anything, not to mention the time and money he spent before becoming a director. I don't think most people can bear this. Just a little love is definitely not enough.
If you know the real situation and want to try again, I have two suggestions:
One is to join first and then understand. Like me, find a studio or even a student crew that is recruiting people, get involved quickly and feel the real situation for yourself. In this process, you will learn more and know if you really like it.
The second is to create before deciding. If you already have certain skills and knowledge related to film and television production and have the desire to create, then gather friends around you and shoot your first work at the lowest possible cost (even with your mobile phone) for everyone to see. Maybe only in this way can you see the road behind you.
After all, there are many things that you may really regret if you don't do it.
