In our study and life, we often encounter three terms: interaction design, human-computer interaction and user experience design. Do these three nouns have the same meaning? If not, what are their similarities and differences? This paper attempts to analyze this kind of interaction design, human-computer interaction and user experience design from three aspects: historical evolution, present situation and future development.
Interactive design originated from website design and graphic design, and has now grown into an independent field. Today's interaction designers are not only responsible for words and pictures, but also for creating all the elements on the screen, everything that users may touch, click or input: in short, all the interactions in the product experience.
Interaction design is to define the interface related to the behavior of the workpiece (that is, "interaction", that is, the way the workpiece reacts in a specific scene). As a new discipline focusing on interactive experience, interactive design came into being in 1980s. This was put forward by bill moggridge, the founder of IDEO, at a design meeting of 1984. He named it "Soft Face" at first, because it was easy to be remembered with the toy "Cabbage Doll" at that time, and later he renamed it.
From 65438 to 0959, American scholar B.Shackel put forward a paper on ergonomics of computer console design, which is considered as the first document of man-machine interface, based on how to reduce fatigue when people operate computers. 1960, Liklider JCR first put forward the concept of close symbiosis between man and machine, which was regarded as the enlightenment view of man-machine interface. From 65438 to 0969, the first international conference on man-machine system was held in Cambridge University, England, and the first professional magazine, International Man-machine Research (IJMMS), was founded in the same year. It can be said that 1969 is a milestone in the history of man-machine interface.
1970 two HCI research centers have been established: one is HUSAT Research Center of Loughbocough University in the UK, and the other is Palo Alto Research Center of Xerox Company in the United States.
From 1970 to 1973, four computer-related ergonomics books were published, which pointed out the direction for the development of human-computer interaction interface.
In the early 1980s, academic circles published six monographs one after another, summarizing the latest research results of human-computer interaction. The subject of human-computer interaction has gradually formed its own theoretical system and practical category structure. In the theoretical system, independent of ergonomics, it emphasizes the theoretical guidance of cognitive psychology, behavioral science and sociology. In the field of practice, it extends from man-machine interface (man-machine interface) and emphasizes the feedback interaction between computer and human. Man-machine interface was replaced by man-machine interaction. I in HCI has also changed from interface to interaction.
The word user experience was first widely recognized by user experience designer Donald Norman in the mid-1990s. Electrical engineer and cognitive scientist Tang.
After Norman joined Apple, he helped the legendary company research and design their people-centered product line. His position was named "User Experience Architect", which was also the first user experience position.
It is not difficult to see from the above data that the term interaction design originated from the computer field, and software experts found many problems in the interaction between people and computers, so the term interaction design came into being. Human-computer interaction is developed from ergonomics, and the research is based on the relationship between man and machine. Different from the terms of interaction design and human-computer interaction, user experience is put forward on the basis of psychology and cognitive science, and the relationship between human and external environment is discussed from the perspective of psychology and cognitive science.
Here, let's first sort out the authoritative definitions of interaction design, human-computer interaction and user experience.
Interaction design: English is called interaction design.
Interactive design refers to the mechanism by which designers interact with products or services. The design of human-computer interaction based on user experience is to consider the user's background, experience and feelings in the operation process, so as to design products that meet the end users and make the end users use the products happily, reasonably, effectively and efficiently.
The purpose of interactive design is to make products easy for users to use. The realization of any product function is accomplished through human-computer interaction. Therefore, human factors should be embodied as the core of design [1].
Human-Computer Interaction: Human-computer interaction (HCI) refers to the process that people and computers exchange information in a certain interactive way to complete certain tasks. Many famous companies and academic institutions are studying human-computer interaction. In the history of computer development, people pay little attention to the ease of use of computers. Nowadays, many computer users complain that computer manufacturers have not invested enough energy to make their products "user-friendly" [2].
User Experience: English is called User Experience, abbreviated as UE, or UX.
Refers to the total experience when users visit a website or use a product. Their impressions and feelings, whether they are successful, whether they enjoy it, and whether they want to come/use it again. The degree to which they can tolerate problems, doubts and mistakes [3].
From the definitions of interaction design, user experience and human-computer interaction, it can be concluded that at this stage, interaction design, user experience and human-computer interaction all have the significance of studying the relationship between people and the external environment. But relatively speaking, interaction design studies the interaction mechanism between people and products. Human-computer interaction studies the dialogue process between people and computers. User experience studies the experience of users when they visit products. From the breadth of the research object, the interactive design of user experience and human-computer interaction. There are similarities and differences among the three, and the analysis diagram can be drawn as follows:
As can be seen from Figure 2.2, from 20 1 1 to September 20 18, among the three words of interaction design, human-computer interaction and user experience, the word most reported by the media is user experience, followed by human-computer interaction and finally interaction design. As an Internet term, user experience is the most widely spread and people know it better. However, human-computer interaction and interaction design belong to professional terms to a certain extent and are not well known.
Artificial intelligence is a new term in recent years. This paper analyzes the development trend of artificial intelligence in interactive design, human-computer interaction and user experience.
Using artificial intelligence to analyze the development trend of interaction design, human-computer interaction and user experience depends on which of these three words has the highest correlation with artificial intelligence. When users search for "artificial intelligence" while searching for "user experience", it shows that "artificial intelligence" and "user experience" are related. Users' searches for "artificial intelligence" and "interaction design" are collected here. Search for "artificial intelligence" and "human-computer interaction"; Search the data of "artificial intelligence" and "user experience" to study the correlation between artificial intelligence and the three.
As can be seen from Figure 3. 1, artificial intelligence has the strongest correlation with interaction design (the largest number of users search for artificial intelligence), followed by user experience, and finally human-computer interaction.
Let's analyze the correlation changes between artificial intelligence and three words from the time dimension.
As can be seen from Figure 3.2, with the passage of time, the correlation between artificial intelligence and user experience, human-computer interaction and interaction design becomes more and more obvious (when the search volume of artificial intelligence increases, the search volume of user experience, human-computer interaction and interaction design also increases).
With the passage of time, the correlation between artificial intelligence and user experience, human-computer interaction and interaction design is gradually enhanced. Among them, artificial intelligence and interaction design have the strongest correlation.
