How to treat the similarities and differences between Chinese and foreign cultures correctly
Abstract: With the strengthening of global integration and the deepening of international cooperation in various fields, it is particularly important to correctly treat the differences between ancient China civilization and western culture. Due to the national historical problems, China people have many attitudes towards western civilization, worshiping or rejecting them. This paper holds that the basic attitudes of recognition, respect, learning, understanding, complementarity and honor should be upheld in treating Chinese and foreign civilizations in order to promote cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries and the prosperity and development of economy and society. Paper Keywords: Chinese and foreign cultures; Similarities and differences; Communication; Understand that all ethnic groups in the world have their own cultural traditions. There are many similarities and obvious differences between various cultures, each with its own uniqueness. Since China was forced to open its doors one hundred years ago and opened to the outside world more than thirty years ago, the discussion on the similarities and differences between Chinese and foreign cultures has been a hot topic. There are not only personal experiences and opinions of people who have lived abroad for a long time, even descendants of Chinese descent, but also painstaking research and in-depth analysis by scholars of human culture, society and culture. Many "foreigners" also enjoy it, which is of great benefit to our thinking and the development and prosperity of China culture. Now, based on my own experience in my study and work, I would like to talk about some superficial understandings on how to correctly treat the similarities and differences between Chinese and foreign cultures, especially the "differences". 1. Recognizing and respecting culture mainly refers to a nation's history, geography, customs, traditional habits, lifestyle, culture and art, code of conduct, way of thinking, values, etc., including all obvious and intangible, reasonable and unreasonable, far from unreasonable things, which exist as a potential guide to people's behavior in a certain period. It can be said that there are as many unique cultures as there are nationalities. "What exists is reasonable", and the existence of various cultures must have its reasons. We should treat Chinese and foreign cultures equally, acknowledge their objective existence and give them enough respect. We can't take the attitude of "ostrich", turn a blind eye, as if it doesn't exist, and we can't deny ourselves. We can adopt the nihilistic attitude of national culture, think that everything from the outside is better than the local one, and we can't adopt cultural chauvinism, treating all foreign cultures as barbarians and Chinese culture as the only one. "To oust a hundred schools of thought and respect Confucianism alone" is not only detrimental to people, but also hampers their own development. For example, Hebrew culture has a history of at least 3000 years. Although the Jewish nation has spread all over the world for more than two thousand years, it was not until after World War II that Israel became a country, but it was able to maintain its own traditions and maintain the continuity of the nation. Rely on the powerful power of culture! How is it possible that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has threatened to "wipe Israel off the face of the earth"? Has the Jewish nation suffered less persecution and suffering? With culture, this nation will not die. Who can gently erase the culture that has penetrated into bone marrow and blood? Second, we should learn and understand the objective facts of respecting the existence of various cultures. The continuous development and innovation of science and technology and the increasingly frequent communication between human beings have brought about the globalization of economy, production and culture. With the increase of communication, cultural exchanges with different connotations will inevitably collide. We should study, study and understand foreign cultures, look for similarities between Chinese and foreign cultures, and pay special attention to differences. For example, the way of thinking between Chinese and western cultures is very different, and the cultural differences formed after the materialization of thinking are even greater. Generally speaking, China people pay more attention to understanding and dialectical thinking, so China pays more attention to image in word-building; Westerners pay more attention to rational and logical thinking, so English is more practical. The same thing is called "post card" in Chinese and literally translated as "post card" in English. In painting, western oil painting pays attention to realism, color, light change and perspective effect, while Chinese painting pays attention to freehand brushwork, which is intended to be implicit, leaving more room for imagination. People in China painted a man riding a horse, surrounded by bees flying around, showing "the fragrance of horseshoes after stepping on flowers". China people don't simply say that your son failed the list, but that "Sun Shan (I) came last, and your son is outside Sun Shan" (the name fell to Sun Shan). Furthermore, China's food culture pays attention to "color, fragrance and shape", while westerners pay attention to the guarantee of nutrition, such as how many calories, vitamins, protein and so on a day. To learn and understand the cultural differences between China and foreign countries, we must understand that the differences come from their respective sources. For example, in China, people say that someone "works like an ox" and "is as brave as an ox", but in English, they use "horse" to express the same meaning. That's because China people have been farming with cows, while the early British people used horses to farm. They are all good helpers, but what they say is different. There is no distinction between high and low, because different production and lifestyle in different regions have caused differences. It can be said that almost all cultural differences between China and foreign countries have their own different reasons. Region, race, history, religion, production and living conditions, and even climate and population will have many different influences on the formation of culture. Three. Complementarity and glory There are various cultures in the world, and the differences between them are inevitable, which is an objective fact. We should not only respect and understand each other, but also learn to be tolerant and learn from each other's strengths. Learn from each other's strengths and achieve harmony and mutual benefit. Pride and prejudice are the most important things in getting along with people, in the communication between countries and in various cultural exchanges. For example, in political culture, westerners often make such mistakes. Some westerners are bent on making all countries in the world become like themselves. They adopted the policy of "not belonging to our own race" and "opposing differences with the party", forcing them to carry out their own system, culture and democracy. For example, the implementation of the "Greater Middle East Democracy Plan" in the Middle East. However, all countries in the Middle East have their own long history and traditional culture, and their ethnic and religious situations are complex and their development levels are different. Instead of the local people's voluntary choice, the result of "mutation" can only be chaos or even retrogression. This has something to do with the upsurge of anti-American and anti-Western sentiment in some countries in the Middle East and Central Asia where the "color revolution" took place. The sequela of cultural arrogance and prejudice can be seen from this. Arrogance and confidence are two different things. Self-confidence is necessary and necessary. The confidence of western culture is justified by the successful development of capitalism for more than 200 years, but we should not completely deny other roads and other cultures. Similarly, we are one of the four ancient civilizations, with a long history and culture, the process of realizing national independence and national basic reunification in the past century, and the rapid and tremendous development in recent decades, which makes it more necessary and more necessary to be more confident. But this does not mean that we can look down on other countries and foreign cultures. One step forward in self-confidence is arrogance and prejudice. China needs the confidence of China culture, and China never denies the lack of his own culture. China advocates inclusiveness and learning from each other's strengths. Cultural conquest is impossible. Historically, China culture has never been completely conquered by other cultures, and there is no attempt to conquer other cultures, but it is peaceful. Silk Road, Xuanzang's Westward Journey, Jian Zhen Dongdu, etc. It has brought cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and foreign countries. Zheng He's voyage to the West is not like Columbus's conquest and occupation. We will definitely go this way in the future. Cultural diversity does not necessarily mean conflict. Let a hundred flowers blossom, a hundred schools of thought contend, discard the false and retain the true, discard the rough and select the fine, tolerate each other, learn from each other and learn from each other's strengths. * * * is the only way to prosper and develop, and * * * is the way to win. The world is rich and colorful. Today, we are in an unprecedented era of all-round contact, great exchange and great development between Chinese and foreign cultures. It can also be said that we have once again presented a great situation of "letting a hundred flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend" during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. We should adhere to the subjectivity of Chinese culture, be more confident and be more conscious of cultural exchange, carry forward the fine tradition of learning from each other in the history of Chinese culture, and make our own efforts for cultural exchange and prosperity between China and foreign countries.
