As a new language form, online buzzwords are one of the research objects of sociolinguistics, and are also the research focus of linguistics at present, attracting more and more attention from linguists. Studying online buzzwords can promote the development of linguistics, help us to study language changes, help us form a deep understanding of online symbols, and thus help us make better use of the achievements brought about by the modern information technology revolution. This paper is divided into six parts, which are the introduction, definition, classification, source, healthy development and conclusion of online buzzwords. Among them, the introduction part introduces the background and research status of online buzzwords. In the definition part, starting from the definition of network language, the definition and research scope of network buzzwords in this paper are pointed out. The classification part classifies network buzzwords in detail from three aspects: ideographic features, rhetorical devices and symbolic features. This is the innovation of this paper, that is, the comprehensiveness of case classification. I fully collect relevant information, including periodicals, magazines, monographs and the Internet. The latest online buzzwords are classified in detail. In addition to giving examples of Chinese characters, symbols and letters, typical network images are also cited. In the part of healthy development, this paper points out the correct attitude towards online buzzwords, and puts forward three strategies to make online buzzwords develop healthily, namely, research, standardization and guidance.
