The leaves of Hypericum japonicum are opposite, clustered at the base, linear-lanceolate or linear, 3-9 cm long and 1-4 cm wide. There are stems at the bottom of the leaves, and the leaves are complete. There are short hairs on both sides of the leaf and more hairs on the edge of the leaf.
Nine lions grass leaves are oval, 5-12cm long and 2.5-4cm wide. The top of leaves gradually becomes sharp, and the base becomes dull or sharp.

Bougainvillea flowers are solitary in leaf axils, with small pedicels 6 to 24 mm long, tubular calyx, green or purple, and five petals of white, pale pink or pale yellow, which are strip-shaped.
The inflorescence of nine lions is terminal or axillary, consisting of 2 to 8 cymes, and the corolla is pink or purplish, 2.5 to 3 cm long.
